Just got Thief and Blow Out. Tried to sneak them in with a couple others during the Amazon.ca pricing error, but didn't end up getting anything

You've missed one of his best, at least in my opinion: The Tenant. That one desperately needs a CC release.

When I'm tired, I sometimes get impatient with a director...and want the pacing to move faster...lately that is when I watch Vin Diesel & Arnold Schwarzenegger movies...either I enjoy them or fall asleep, either way I win! Maybe some should take a nap and re-watch the movie...lol |

I preordered Valerie and Her Week of Wonders during B&N's 40% off sale for $27.99. I thought that would be the best price until the Criterion sale, and then Amazon lowered its price to $22.99. B&N still hasn't shipped my copy of Valerie and I chose expedited shipping. I hope it ships today; I've really been anticipating this release.

As for his recent stuff, I was mixed on Venus with Fur and found Carnage unbearable. I appreciate that he still has some creative juices flowing, but he's nowhere close to the same filmmaker he was. |

I watched A Room With a View for the first time the other day. I had DVR'd it and the broadcast wasn't in HD, so the picture wasn't the greatest (I'm sure the new 4K restoration will look grand). I was pretty impressed by it overall; I quite enjoyed the 19 year-old Helena Bonham-Carter, as well as Julian Sands, Maggie Smith, Rupert Graves, and Judi Dench. I had just watched Maurice the day before, which is my favorite of the Merchant Ivory/Forster films, but I quite liked the simplicity of A Room With a View. It was also kind of fun to see more male nudity (except for Simon Callow, but never mind that). I can't wait to add this to my collection in September.
How would you rank the three Merchant Ivory/Forster films? I do need to rewatch Howards End, but right now I'd go with: Maurice A Room With a View Howards End |

Allow me to add the Remains of the Day too. Maurice (well, if it wasn't for personal reasons too maybe I would rank it 2nd) Remains of the Day Howards End A Room with A View If Criterion can't release Maurice, well I hope then it will be Twilight time. then I'll have 2 Criterion and 2 TT Ivory! ![]() |

The amazing thing about Peeping Tom is it's from 1960 and is pretty perverse when you think about it. I mean, it's about a guy who films women as they watch themselves being murdered! It kind of ruined Powell's career and scared the shit out of Hitchcock in that he thought Psycho would have the same effect on him. Peeping Tom is also a favorite of psychoanalytic film critics interested in the male "gaze" in cinema. And hence the Laura Mulvey commentary on the Criterion dvd... |

I just spent the last 3 nights watching different cuts of Blade Runner and the 3 1/2 hour documentary about it. I hadn't seen the film in years.
I noticed that Criterion released the theatrical cut originally on laserdisc. What do you think the chances are that they regain the license/rights to release this on blu-ray? I'm guessing Warner Bros. is keeping a short leash on this one, since its a catalog title. ![]() |
