Picnic features fantastic cinematography, a top notch transfer, a gorgeous female lead.. its lyrical, has great costumes, and will make your sub-woofer woof.

Jules and Jim is my least favourite Truffaut. The writing is poor and he attempts to make up for it by injecting it with all the style he can muster (even though it just ends up becoming distracting because the first 20 minutes or so feels like a poorly paced montage).

I absolutely loved it and can definitely see myself viewing it frequently in order to fully comprehend everything presented and implied.

Maybe you should keep them. If you make another trip back to Barnes & Noble to return them, you'll be wasting gas money and harming the environment. You might even have a fender-bender and be out hundreds of dollars! Better to stay safe at home and watch your blu-rays.

Of course, there hopefully should be a coupon e-mailed out next Thursday for you to use before the sale ends. That would make it worth your while to go back one last time and pick up Eddie Coyle or whatever else you decide you want. You won't be able to return the blu-rays you've already bought, because you'll have watched them and they'll be used, but it would be foolish to waste a perfectly good coupon. Tell you what ... you can go ahead and splurge this month, telling yourself that you'll behave and cut back on your spending next month.

There you go! See how cleverly I justify being self-indulgent? I've had lots of experience. I can resist anything but temptation ...

Catherine is the biggest issue with that film IMO. Jules and Jim are intoxicated by her because she's a "real woman", but, in the film, it seems that being a "real woman" means being absolutely insufferable. So you end up a bit puzzled about why these two guys are so utterly enchanted by her. It almost seems like Jules and Jim are reacting to a character like Jean Seberg in "Breathless", who was intoxicating. Jeanne Moreau's performance is solid, but the character does the film no favors. I didn't dislike it, but it was underwhelming, particularly after seeing "The 400 Blows", "The Last Metro" and "Day For Night", which I all thought were excellent.

It is the absolute polar opposite of the Herzog/Cage "Bad Lieutenant" film, which I also enjoy. Whatever you do, don't return any of these three films. Don't Look Now in particular is one of my all time favorites. I've seen it countless times. I repeat: DO NOT RETURN!

Wow, it's impressive when a director's body of work is so strong that a film of the quality of Boogie Nights only ranks #6.

I just moved my movie collection to my new home. This is getting real now.

I know that some of you tease me for keeping my movie collection (and some of my music collection) in the plastic cases from Target, but I have to say that this system certainly makes moving easier.

I waited until evening to place the collection in my truck and transport it, since the daytime temperatures climb into the upper 90s here. Thankfully, the trip only takes about 15 to 20 minutes. You can't see it in the photo, but a bunch of the plastic cases were also in the truck cab, on my passenger floorboard and passenger seat.

Since I have a few days left in the old apartment before I'm entirely moved in, I did keep one case with my recent purchases here, since I'll have time to watch a movie or two during the evenings. I didn't get a chance to watch the Blu-ray of The Killers (1964) last night, but I'm about to start it in a few minutes. I've also got The Black Stallion in the queue to watch this week, but I'm going to wait until I'm entirely moved in before I watch Hiroshima Mon Amour, since that one will demand my viewing it with a clear head (when I'm not focused on real-life stuff, like moving, for example).
