I was just thinking how there MIGHT be an outside chance Criterion may be able to issue some Woody Allen MGM films on Blu-ray. Then I re-read the MGM thread on CF and saw Allen films are NOT part of the deal :/

These films are begging for Blu-ray releases:

Annie Hall
Manhattan
Crimes and Misdemeanors
Another Woman
Sleeper
Love and Death
Interiors
Hannah and Her Sisters
Broadway Danny Rose
Bananas
Stardust Memories

There's many more but these especially. Not to rank on the DVD format but many of the films' transfers are unacceptable (see Crimes and Misdemeanors disc). If MGM (or whomever has controlling interest) isn't going to do something with these films then why not hand them over to the friendly folks at Criterion?

How sweet would two Blu-ray Woody Allen Eclipse sets be?

Criterion releases for ALLEN films would be great as long as each film can be released seperatly also. I would like to see what kind of cover art these films could get.

Same with the New Hollywood RUMORED set, I really hope the set comes with all the films in a sep. case inside the set, otherwise they would lack identity. Hoping for single cases big time. I don't mind buying them all together but PLEASE single cases :-)

I'm sure I'm alone here but I never much cared for most Woody Allen films.

Wow, really. Guess I just assumed there would be far more Allen fans around here than there apparently are. Annie Hall almost put me to sleep.

The Allen fans are here. We're just too neurotic to argue with you.

It's probably pretty blasphemous, too, among Woody Allen fans for me to admit that I really enjoy his latest output a whole lot... "Scoop," "Match Point," "Anything Else," "Cassandra's Dream," "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," etc.

But, I find many of his early works great, as well. I think "The Purple Rose of Cairo" is a really amazing film.

You might be right. I actually have not seen any of his more recent works that you mentioned.

His recent work is worse than his classics. I despise the man. I want to thumb wrestle him till he pukes and submits.

I'm a huge Woody fan of any vintage. If we could just get Annie Hall and Deconstructing Harry on blu I'd be happy, not holding my breath though. I'd be surprised if Criterion were to release, since there would be no extras.

Get the Bunuel film The Diary of a Chambermaid, because it is going out of print, so that will not be a Criterion blu.
Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely pick up Diary of a Chambermaid. Likely Nanook and the Night Porter as well.

I wouldn't mind Wild Strawberries next. In fact, other than F&A, this should be the next.
