I don't mind if they released 5-10 digipacks a year for a really fancy large release with thick booklets, they look more special than the plastic cases. But I understand both sides, and as long they don't go and do something like those thin digipacks that came with their first blu-rays all will be good.

Ah, I didn't know you're in Spain. Yeah, like deepbreathsanddeath said, shipping went up quite a bit for international buyers for B&N. You might just have to try tracking the prices for the titles you want on here just to see when Amazon lowers their prices.

With the announcement and upcoming release of Pennebaker's Dont Look Back, what are the chances of Criterion releasing his 1973 film, Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars?

I've been praying for a Criterion release of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars for a long while now. I used to own that movie on VHS, and it's really something.

Last weekend, some friends and I went to see Mötley Crüe in concert with Alice Cooper as the supporting act. I was reminded of how influential David Bowie's glam-rock phase was to subsequent bands.

I've always been intrigued by Bowie but had only known a few of his songs. Over these past few months, though, I've really been expanding my knowledge of him and exploring his catalogue, which has resulted in me admiring him as one of the greatest musicians of all-time.

David Bowie has always been a favorite of mine.

In my opinion, the best five-album streak in the history of rock is Bowie's Station to Station (1976), Low (1977), "Heroes" (1977), Lodger (1979), and Scary Monsters (1980).

Most people, however, think of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (1972), as Bowie's peak, and it really is a fine album that had a great tour.

If I had a favorite song of all time, I would definitively say it's "Heroes".

The more you speak, the more I silently fall in love with you as only a straight man could. We're not too different in age (I'm 37), I'm originally from northwest GA, I run (although not as intensely as you), and you seem to have great taste in music and movies.

I've actually just recently been going back to pick up the remaining Rykodisc CD releases of Bowie's catalog because I think those releases sound the best out of all the digital reissues.

PS... Don't be weirded out by the love part above; it's just a joke.

Much appreciated! I used to own a lot of the Rykodisc editions of Bowie's albums until they were stolen. Nowadays, I mostly roll with the EMI editions. I have, however, pre-ordered Bowie's upcoming box set, Five Years 1969-1973, which has remastered versions of his albums from that era, and which is the first of other career-spanning sets. The 40th Anniversay remaster of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars sounds great, and this box set reportedly has the other early albums treated the same way.

I am expanding my critical vocabulary. "Ivan's Childhood" has a supplement in which a woman describes how the movie can be difficult: abrubt, disorienting cuts; is a particular scene real or a dream? etc. She suggests that one could try to gain a "retrospective understanding" of the movie, which is an alternative to saying, "Watch it again."

Heads up! Amazon seems to be running a sort of unofficial "flash sale" on Criterion titles today, with a lot of the expensive box sets at 50% off and many $39.99 titles discounted down to $22.49.

Yes, but Amazon usually has these for about $24 so this is like a 10% sale for the $22 titles.

since i have a $10 gift card balance it came out to be $43 shipped after taxes and because i am not a bn member this might be the cheapest release day

Tempting sale! But, I think I will wait on the next Criterion flash-sale (which should be coming later this month or early next month) and the B&N sale in the fall that coincides with Black-Friday.

Thanks, just pre-ordered Apu Trilogy, since there isn't a B&N near me, the only way to get a better deal without waiting until next year Criterion Flash Sale for me is if there is a 15%-30% online coupon code for Next B&N sale.

The best part for me is being able to pre-order horror titles like Kwaidan or The Brood for good prices before Halloween
