My question is: how cold does it get in the fall and winter months in Southern California that merits romanticizing about cozying up w/ warm beverages?

[Show spoiler] just teasing, of course.

Lol! It does get overcast, cold, and occasionally rainy. In fact this week it rained (I'm out of town, in the land of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and Vertigo) and everyone lost their minds.

One day this past spring, it was so unexpectedly fall-esque I had to rush home and watch Suspiria and Rosemary's Baby. Felt too Halloween-y to pass up!

yeah, definitely in San Francisco. I was in town once for an August Giants/Dodgers game and it felt like being at a Cubs game here in April. people on the BART had winter skull caps on and everything... freezing, actually.. but that's Northern California.

EDIT: I half misunderstood what you wrote at first... it rained in So. Cal is what you're saying. got it.

What's the movie he reshot in certain scenes in sound after it'd been shot silent? I also liked that one. When I used to have Digital Cable Classic package, there were blocks on Turner Classic Movies which showed a lot of Harold Lloyd movies.
Welcome Danger...I didn't like that one as much as his other features.

I've given up on Le Samourai.

Jon Mulvaney once said, "The world is a find place and worth fighting for."

...I agree with the second part.

Yeah I'm way behind on Harold Lloyd; need to pick up Safety Last first. I should also catch up on Chaplin as well.

You woulda thought Jellyfish Eyes would have had a better cover - seeing as this guy is an artist and stuff, reminds me of Phase IV, made by an incredible designer/artists and he wasn't allowed to do artwork and was left with piss poor design.

Ah well lol.

I think the cover fits the themes and ideas presented by the film in a fantastic manner. It's perfect, actually.

You would think there would be a ton of extras about Murakami's art. But it's rather bare bones. It must be an obligation they have to fulfill, by releasing it. That would at least make the release interesting.

Nope, that digipak is awesome

I highly agree. I hated that movie. Only the music was what made me want to continue watching it.

Time to trot out one of my favorite links again (I love this article)

And yeah, I really like the digipak too. Sure, I wish the paper were a little more durable but the art is fantastic.

I liked Harold's movies so much I purchased his 3D hollywood nudes book. Yeah that was the reason.

Talk about being envious of someone. That mansion along with photographing almost every top hollywood actress. what a life.

There are several other features (that is, longer than 45 minutes) that were released on DVD as part of New Line's Harold Lloyd Comedy Collection. Hopefully, some of these will make their way into the Criterion Collection:

A Sailor-Made Man (1921)
Grandma's Boy (1922)
Dr. Jack (1922)
Why Worry? (1923)
Hot Water (1924)
Girl Shy (1924)
For Heaven's Sake (1926)
The Kid Brother (1927)
Feet First (1930)
Movie Crazy (1932)
The Cat's Paw (1934)
The Milky Way (1936)

The last four were sound films.

Others (all sound films) not in the above collection are:

Welcome Danger (1929)
Professor Beware (1938)
The Sin of Harold Diddlebock (1947) (written & directed by Preston Sturges)

He made over 180 short films, only 13 of which are available in the aforementioned New Line DVD set (two of which can be found on Criterion's edition of The Freshman, and one on Speedy).

So after all of your ripping apart of the film prior to having seen it, you've now seen it and the worst dig you've got is to criticise the artwork on the Blu-ray disc?

Wow! You're capable of exercising great restraint!

C'mon, give us some kind of review. As bad as you anticipated?
