Are people really upset about Boyhood? Do people not forget that during the laserdisc days they released Do the Right Thing, Pulp Fiction, Boogie Nights and The Game soon after they came out? It's going to be a great, profitable release for all the people that want it (and there's a lot) and it doesn't stop them from releasing films that do need releases.

Seems like this same conversation happens every month.

Time is a flat circle.

I'm not upset. There's no reason to be upset. It is essential for Criterion to release money makers. I'm just saying - don't make the mistake of thinking that they are rushing this one out because its so damn good. If that was the case, Bicycle Thieves and The Passion of Joan of Arc would have already been released.

given another 12 years (the time it took to make the film) this one will be LONG forgotten. who's going to want it then?
True, but Boyhood took 12 years to make. That automatically makes it an important contemporary film.

What "needs" release is mostly subjective.
Although between two random movies like eg.
Bringing Up Baby and Jellyfish eyes, I think it's highly objective and obvious what "needs" a release!

Why, by language, of course.

Further subdivided by type of case and then chronologically.

Yes, it does. Like I said in my last post, I have no problem with them releasing it. I'm just commenting on the timing of the release.

Another good way would be by color.
Look how good the Ghibli collection looks:

Do you order them from least F-bombs to most, or vice versa?

For this set 'By Color' is automatic choice because the collector could not read Japanese (neither title nor spine numbers)...

well, I had originally organised them by year of release, but then i was jealous and I organised them by color too!
it helps of course that i know by heart which color is each film!

Two Days One Night still beat Boyhood when it comes to earlier release though.

Yes, but I think the main point is, there is an existing US blu-ray release for Boyhood released within last 12 months...

So what's the earliest criterion blu-ray release when there was an US release before criterion (after the 1st US blu-ray release)? or is there any movie which released less than 18 months before and got a blu-ray release before criterion?

OUATIA is in my top 3. The opium induced haze that may or may not be the final act of the film is captivating. I wonder what Leone would have done with The Godfather if he had decided to direct that instead of doing this film.
