For myself, had to get The Graduate. Plus two blind-buys: The Spy Who Came In From The Cold, and For All Mankind. The former because I do like spy movies and political intrigue, I just hope it's not too dry/slow.
Oh, you'll be too angry WITH the film to find it dry or slow. I guarantee it.

This last week has been a good one for my collection.

The Conversation
Heartbreakers
Bullitt
Mad Max
Dark City
The Passion of Joan of Arc
City Girl
The Kid
The Leopard
The Complete Jean Vigo
Mutiny on the Bounty
(1933)

And today..

It Happened One Night
Odd Man Out
Solaris
Orpheus
The Graduate
M
Yi Yi
The Freshman
Nashville
Jules and Jim
L'avventura

Thank you all for the suggestions. Today's purchase presents my introduction to several directors: Edward Yang, Jean Cocteau, Andrei Tarkovsky, Michelangelo Antonioni, Sam Taylor and Fred Newmeyer, and, for all practical intents and purposes, Robert Altman.

Lots to look forward to.

Bitter Rice

There are so many great recent releases, but I used this sale to catch up on some older wishlist items. I bought Naked, Paris, Texas, World on a Wire, and Rules of the Game. All blind buys except for the last one and I couldn't have done it without recommendations from those in this forum, so thanks for that! I think my next CC order will net me my first CC gift card.

No, I didn't get anything... this isn't really a 50% off sale when they just split the price they don't actually sell items at in half and say it's half off. I can get Criterions from forum members for a lot cheaper.

I did pick up some other things today:

Once Upon a Crime DVD
Nanook of the North Criterion DVD
3 Films by Alexander Sokurov DVD (sealed)

All out of print stuff for $35 total. Money better spent, if they arrive safely...

Oh wow, I had only 13 loyalty points to go until my very first $50 Gift Certificate from Criterion.com, so I decided to buy one Criterion film (Burroughs: The Movie) and pay for shipping (which came out to $26.92) and then use my $50 certificate on 3 more films (with free shipping), and only paid what was left over ($9.91)!

So I ended up buying:

The Kid
The Graduate
The American Friend

Do you see the "THE" theme going there boys?!

Maybe its time I rock out to "The The" now!

Until the next Flash sale!

Check out the screenshot below!

A very expensive week for me - managed to purchase on EBay a Sideshow Spartacus statue which was sold out at Sideshow (and managed to get it for a price including shipping which was less than Sideshows price unshipped) and caught up on my Criterion collection!

The Graduate, The Kid, The Complete Lady Snowblood, The American Friend, I Knew Her Well, Gilda, Inside Llewyn Davis, The Rock Box, Weekend, Downhill Racer, Jellyfish Eyes, Burroughs: The Movie, Speedy, Bitter Rice, Death by Hanging and The Immigrants/The New Land..

Im having trouble deciding what to get! I'm thinking about getting some titles from big name directors, like Scorsese (Last Temptation), Fincher (The Game), or the Coen Brothers (Llweyn Davis). Any suggestions?

I guess Criterion credit DOES overlook its shipping option. I'll have to consider this once I reach the $500 point...in about six-to-seven years.

What type of film do you enjoy most? The Game is a fantastic thriller and Llweyn Davis is a fantastic drama (although you need to enjoy somber). Last Temptation I've never seen so I can't tell you about that one. I'll say Llweyn Davis though since that is a film for me as well as having fantastic extras.

I'm into most types of movies! I want to buy a mix of classics and contemporary, Foreign and English. I feel pretty set on more recent films, but do you have any suggestions for older films? There's so many to choose from!

I aim more towards contemporary but Seven Samurai is a great film to have in your collection, any of the Charlie Chaplins, I hear Gilda is one of the best Criterions in terms of film and extras.

Also, The Graduate. If you have not seen that, now is the perfect time to get the Criterion as a blind buy.

It's funny how the Criterion Flash Sale always takes place right after I've already purchased Blu-rays earlier that morning.

Earlier today, before I found out about the Flash Sale...
I ordered Coming to America, Trading Places, Back to School, and Ms. 45 from Deep Discount DVD to take advantage of their 15% off sale.
I ordered Crypt of the Living Dead from Vinegar Syndrome.
I bought Spotlight from the Target store down the street during lunch.

I've only participated in two of these. Once again, I'll sit this one out. There are recent releases that I'd like to see, but nothing that I feel the need to own. Interested in The Kid, but I'm still on the fence about Chaplin and have to watch my blind buy of The Gold Rush still. Modern Times was fine, but didn't quite live up to its reputation.

Every other 'hey, look what I ordered' post today has Gilda in there somewhere.

Other older/classic titles that are really safe blind buys...hmmm...

Anatomy of a Murder, Sweet Smell of Success and 12 Angry Men are personal faves and hard to go wrong with.

I've also seen a lot of The Kid (I am a pretty big Chaplin fan) and The Graduate. In the words of The Beatles, "It's all too much"
[Show spoiler]A Hard Day's Night, maybe?

Ah...criterion sale happens only 2 days in a year...and you order blu-rays in the morning on 300 days out of 365 days
So chances are pretty bright...
