Default 4K Titles

Has anyone heard if they will be releasing any titles in the 4k UHD format?

Maybe in the future. Don't hold you breath. A smaller company isn't going to use the resources necessary until they know it's worth it. They still have a long way to go to update what they do have.

What are the top 5 criterion's you own that are the most sentimental/special to you?

Seven Samurai: When I am stuck at home and feeling sick
Late Spring: shows the power of film and how it can move you
Ugetsu: utterly beautiful, plus the booklet is amazing
8 1/2: for a contemplative mood I love trying to understand this
Ikiru: the movie I wanted my parents to see

The 6th man: The Red Balloon/White Mane: one day my son will love this

All you Punk and Prog rock guys, you fail to understand that the Monkees, who have a film in the Criterion collection, started both genres. I'm totally not trolling, because Micky dolenz was like the 2nd person ever to own a Moog, and the Monkees were the first band to feature a Moog on a popular song, and the Sex Pistols covered quite a few of their songs, so neener neener neener!

Are you a fan of The French Connection? Very similar grimy, street level, cold 70's aesthetic. Mitchum is awesome as always. A/V quality is solid and there is a very good Yates commentary track.

I love The Friends Of Eddie Coyle.

The early 70s were a period for Mitchum where he did some good to great work.

The Friends of Eddie Coyle
The Yakuza
The Last Tycoon
Farewell My Lovely
The Big Sleep

Fantastic performance by Robert Mitchum.

...one of his very best.

Everything else about the movie is good, but not especially memorable imo.

Wait wait. So, if Neil Diamond wrote songs by The Monkees was he one of the artists who influenced the genre? The way I see it music is circular and everything is influenced by everything (either positive or negative)

As an aside, I love punk but am totally obsessed with Genesis from the 70's and have Nursery Crime and Peter Gabriel 3 on vinyl.

Fantastic news. Pathe's new restoration of LA BELLE EQUIPE A.K.A. THEY WERE FIVE is heading back to French cinemas in April. Two more Julien Duvivier films are also reintroduced, including DEADLIER THAN THE MALE.

Blu-ray announcement should follow up soon. Hopefully, Criterion will be able to license at least La Belle... for people in North America

Additional Julien Duvivier titles HERE

"I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums."

Daydream Believer, A Little Bit Me A Little Bit You, Steppin' Stone, and Last Train to Clarksville are all awesome songs. Doesn't matter that they didn't write them.

Beauty and the Beast
Summer With Monika
Black Orpheus
Juliet of the Spirits
Lord of the Flies

An odd mix, but these are all films that made a big impression on me when I was first getting seriously interested in foreign films back in the late '70s-early '80s.

A sentimental 6th would be My Life As a Dog. This is my tonic for times when I'm feeling down because as it's young protagonist keeps reminding me-"It could be worse."

I was wondering if anyone has been able to get a replacement disc without having to send their copy?

I have the Code Unknown disc with the problem from the flash sale so I would think it's just a matter of letting them know my order #, but I guess the important thing is that I don't resell the other which I assume will just be destroyed, not sure if they actually check it to see if it does have the issue that would be tedious depending on how many they get.

Anyway I also received a crushed case, am I right in assuming they can ship a replacement case at no expenses for me? since it was shipping directly from them and it had no padding material.

I could easily list 30, it is very hard narrowing down to 5 but here it is:

Black Narcissus
City Lights
Jules and Jim
Three Colors Trilogy (particularly for Red)
Cassavetes boxset (particularly for Faces)

Cheating number 6 would be: Naked

I see on March 22 Amazon has the bluray only version of Tokyo Story available. So that version should be in a plastic case right? Just wanted to double check that the re-releases will not be digi. Thanks.

I'd like them to up their compression game before they step foot into a higher res format.

You must not have bought any of their recent titles, cause I've seen zero crying about any of them as of yet.
