I haven't seen Le Samourai and I see that many people here ask for it.
This is a great cover for the upcoming Japanese Bluray:

[Show spoiler]

I understand the existing blurays are not good.

Supposedly it's from a 2011 master. Have a feeling it will look similar to the "fixed" French release, but who knows.

I also love Xavier Dolan's videos. - Maybe they could release a collection done by big directors, like PT Anderson, Xavier Dolan, Lynch, Glazer etc etc
Indochine Boy is one of my favourites! It makes me happy that he's getting some very mainstream recognition through Adele's Hello video - but I know that most people will look at it and think "omg this song is great, omg Adele is great, omg this music video is pretty good" rather than "omg hot French Canadian directors though wasn't Mommy such an amazing film".

At least we've been seeing some artist related anthologies - like with The Beatles 1 and The Doors Revolution. It's a shame that so many amazing videos have to put up with YouTube compression. 4K could represent a change in that area, but you can tell where some darker sequences don't look as good as they could do.

Hoop Dreams bored me to tears when I watched it on VHS way back when. I wonder if I would have a different experience if I watched it now.

[Show spoiler]It's one of those movies that feels at least twice as long as it actually is. It makes its basic point and then just... keeps making the same point, but with different people.

id say it was a pretty good representation - Kirsten Dunst was amazing to watch and really portrayed the illness as it is. Saying that I think Antichrist represented it better, its more extreme but for me depression isn't just depression, its anxiety and fears.

Lars Von Trier is great at showing emotions to the extreme and as extreme as they are - people feel those on a daily basis.

I haven't, actually. But if they've improved, great.

Yes, Imagica said it is based on the 2011 restoration. I wonder how it looks, too. Hope it looks better than the French releases, but I think it should be similar to the fixed French release, too.

Totally agree, emotions aren't one sided. There is more than one reason for them and usually emotions come in pairs or more.

I like how they were portrayed in inside out where at the end
[Show spoiler]she has mixed emotions
. Von Trier is Great at it but sometimes it is hard to sit through.

I received my Criterion Flash Sale items last week (one item was backordered, so there was a slight delay).

Watched "Erasherhead" and "Naked Lunch" over the weekend...outstanding quality. Oh, and "On The Waterfront."

Have yet to see all the "Monterey Pop" footage, but the "Jimi Plays Monterey" disc has the best images I've seen of that monumental performance.

Haha yeah, defo!

I guess some people struggle to understand what they haven't experienced themselves - which results in criticism. Antichrist or any Lars Von Trier film can come across as over the stop, silly, depressing etc but when you experience Depression, Anxiety, Grief etc your mind goes to dark places.

Bess, Selma, She, Grace, Karen, Justine etc all experience these extremes emotion and dark times - you can't blame them for their actions or how the reacted the the different scenarios. Everyone deals with these emotions differently and they are extreme cases but it happens all the time.

I find it fascinating and that is one reason I love Lars Von Trier's films and his amazing women in his films, and it is honest because Lars has experienced depression and anxiety etc, it doesn't feel false or forced.

People fear what they don't know and don't understand, its only human, and I get his film are hard to watch at times and do require an understanding and patience- but for me its worth every moment.

I am rambling and probably making no sense lol.

I wonder if all Kubrick will be rereleased restored at some point.
I'd like to buy The Shining mostly, and Barry Lyndon.

I can. In fact I think it seems intrinsic to the plot of Antichrist that She is blamed for her actions.

She blames herself, but it was equally both He and She's fault :P but no, I know what you mean :P
