I am a huge silent movie fan but for some reason that didn't click with me, maybe at some point I watch it again.

You're absolutely correct. They should just cancel the release at this point. It's becoming a full on travesty.

I don't keep it on regular releases, but I do open my box sets and digipaks with a razor blade so I can keep the plastic on the outer sleeve.

That's why I like my copy of Seventh Seal originally etched on slate. I just wish there wasn't that black crush scene with Bibi.

I got rid of all my slates. It was just too much strain on my shelving.

They're typically in July and November.

On a side note, the Criterion Collection really needs to pick up more Lynch. Maybe not his opus magnum, Blue Velvet, but some of his lesser known but surreal titles, like: Lost Highway, Wild at Heart, or Inland Empire. These would be a good fit, and the current DVD editions really aren't that great.
I always liked your taste in film, bro. I agree of course we need more Lynch releases on Criterion BD. My top 2 wants are The Straight Story and Lost Highway. I think MGM did a decent job with Blue Velvet so I'm fine with keeping that edition. It contains a lot of good supplements and high quality video/audio (David Lynch personally supervised the making of that blu-ray release too).

It's almost a comedic piece of artwork the more I stare at it... or maybe it reminds me of an illustrated children's book from the early 1980s that I read about the short history of Native Americans in America.

Would be very pleased with The Straight Story. Possibly LH too like you say, though I'd also be interested in Inland Empire purely for supplement purposes and the possibility of getting his digital short films on as bonus features (all of which are of course standard def like the film but you can't actually own anywhere without buying the Lime Green DVD collection).

I too would be interested in the most accessible Lynch, since I'm not fan of weirdness, namely The Straight Story and The Elephant Man (possibly in a new 4k restoration).

edit: Oh, and definitely Dune!

Okay, I've been distracted for the past couple of days, and haven't wanted to take the time to write up a list, but I'll play along now.

My 10 Desert Island Criterion Films...

1. Le Samouraļ
2. Le Cercle Rouge
3. Army of Shadows
4. The Night of the Hunter
5. Paris, Texas
6. In a Lonely Place
7. The Vanishing
8. The Third Man
9. Night and the City
10. Sweet Smell of Success

Yes, I'm calling out In a Lonely Place already, since I own the existing DVD, and I love the film.

See, I'm okay with not having every Lynch film in the Criterion Collection, if there are already solid blu-ray releases of these films (such as Blue Velvet, The Elephant Man and Dune). I did a quick check and noticed all 3 movies were released on BD and come with good supplements and high quality video/audio transfers. All 3 movies are available in Region A playback too, so all 3 are playable on U.S. consoles/blu-ray players. Sure, 4k upgrades would be good, but let's focus on his movies that have yet to come to blu-ray in Region A and with good, playable supplementary material (the German edition/s of Lost Highway have their supplements in PAL format, so we can't watch them unless you have a region-free player (which not all of us have), and the Japanese edition of The Straight Story comes with no supplements at all, save for a trailer).

I would love a definitive CC edition of Dune that could include the original and extended cuts (maybe even a third cut, didn't they film like five hours originally?). But I keep hearing the German editions are great, been meaning to import those.

Would love seeing the other Lynch movies get the Criterion treatment. I could easily envision The Elephant Man at the least.
