Just finished In A Lonely Place and all I can say is WOW! I've seen quite a few Humphrey Bogart (truly love this man) movies but somehow this one has always eluded me. I can see how it gets grouped in with Sunset Boulevard and All About Eve because it does deal a lot with the "behind the scenes" cruelty of show business but this film is so much more intimate and just plain heartbreaking.
I forget who nominated this as Blu of the year a few days ago but I definatly want to second that. |

In the future, please use spoiler tags in your post if you're going to name title releases early. Thank you.

That's great to hear. I've been on a bit of a Bogie kick as of late. I'll definitely be purchasing In a Lonely Place during the Barnes & Noble Criterion sale in July. Now if Criterion or Warner Bros. would just release To Have and Have Not.
In the mean time, I have plenty of his films to keep me busy. Dark Passage will be here Tuesday. ![]() Quote:

The new 4K restoration of Heaven Can Wait (1943) will be screening in June in nyc, and probably other places. I imagine it'll get a CC BD release down the road too.

I spent the afternoon watching A Brighter Summer Day. Holy shit...
I can't wait to rewatch the movie and piece everything together. This is a film that almost requires multiple viewings because so much is happening simultaneously in terms of street gangs, politics, and character motivation and identity. |

I'm really looking forward to A Touch of Zen. Not that long ago I was in this thread inquiring as to why Criterion doesn't put out more Chinese films, and then my wishes come true. I know nothing about it and I've never heard of it before this, but it'll be a day one purchase for me.

Watched "The Thin Blue Line" today for the first time in a few years. Damn is that a phenomenal film. It's one of those rare films I'd rate a true 10/10 in terms of what it accomplishes in its given medium. The way David Ray Harris sits there with a shit-eating grin on his face during practically every minute he's on screen being interviewed is something that always sticks with me.

Severin released a nice version of "The Stunt Man" a few years back. That is one crazy film. It took me a couple viewings to wrap my head around it. O'Toole was so absurdly good in that film. Not that the Oscars matter, but it was rotten luck for him that he happened to go up against De Niro in "Raging Bull" that year. But I think O'Toole was every bit as good in "The Stunt Man" as DeNiro was as LaMotta.

Checking out "Dressed to Kill" for the first time in a while right now. Maybe I was too young to fully appreciate Dennis Franz's performance when I saw it the first time, but he is so over-the-top and daft in it that I'm laughing out loud at his every line. The only performance that I can think of that strikes a similar tone is Ruben Blades' performance in the Bruce Willis turkey "Color of Night".
