Criterion releases for The Killing and Sweet Smell of Success are pretty much unoffically confirmed. We know that they are coming, we just have to wait.

It helps though, being Night of the Hunter is 2-disc priced and also Modern Times. Antichrist is a pass, but love the cover art for some reason. You can hardly see the title, which I kind of like.

well I think many of us realize that the only hope of getting many American studio classics on blu-ray now rests with Criterion.
the major studios are just not prepared to release much, as has become crystal clear, and no matter how many people claim otherwise, I don't ever see this changing very much.
With StudioCanal taking back most of Criterion's French classics--and I'm assuming not allowing any new old films to be released--it means that Criterion can use that unfortunate situation to help bring some of the many amazing American classics that are trapped on crappy mgm and paramount and other studios with issues dvds.
And that seems to be exactly what they are doing.
and there really couldn't be better news EVER for bd imo.
Let's hope they keep going for more because the list is endless.
btw: anyone else surprised that they don't seem to be going with a Chaplin boxset?
Are they really going to release 6 or so separate Chaplin bds or are some of the films already released overseas not going to get the blu tx?
what do ya'll think?

They can make more money selling them one by one. I believe they said they will release them throughout the next couple of years. I can see the lesser known ones being boxed, but City Lights (which I think is next, Dec?), The Kid, etc could make them more money with separate releases.

As long as they aren't in those regular Blu-Ray cases like Benjamin Button I'm ok with it.

The Last Movie could be the best movie ever or the worst. If that explains anything. If you can find it (only vhs), you should check it out.

Out of the Blue is f'n awesome. It is sold as how Easy Rider was like the film for the 60's heading into the 70's. Out of the Blue is for the punk rock scene of the 70's heading into the 80's.

atleast some studios such as canal , warner , lionsgate , sony are actually trying to give us films

unlike paramount who are just robbing us of classics
to be honest i would love for criterion to release all the classics just like back in the lazer disc days

but they themselves said paramount wont give up the rights to films like
"dont look now " and "chinatown"

i hate paramount

Is anyone else excited at the potential of finally receiving "The Gold Rush" as it was presented in 1925? Even the fancy pants WB Special Edition a few years ago, gave loving attention to the 1942 release and threw the original on as a supplement without the original score (replacing it with muzak pipe organ music).

That always happens with box sets. Teshigahara, Antoine Doinel, etc, etc...

In the "America Lost and Found" set, anyone notice there are seven films, but the Criterion site says it's only 6 discs? This has to be a mistake, doesn't it? I can't imagine they'd put two films on the same disc.

No spine covers, so I'm guessing similar to the AK100 set, not numbered.

As for November releases, the fact they are coming out on the 16th ensures that they will be part of the B&N's November 50% off Criterion sale.

This may change as many Paramount titles on DVD and Blu-ray have went OOP.

As promised, "Drive, He Said" and "A Safe Place" share a disc.

Nope.

Actually, Ben Button had a spine number (478).

But that has nothing to do with the BBS set. The individual titles are numbered 544 - 550. The box set has no number. Just like "Rebel Samurai" "Great Adaptations" etc.
