Speaking of B&N, are there any 20% off coupons to be had currently? I'm trying to get it down to buying an armload of Criterions and having them owe me money!

So does Paramount release anything from their old catalog anymore, or have they sold everything to Warner? The reason I ask is because I'm watching Criterion's The Graduate release right now and I'm loving this presentation. It makes me hope for a Catch 22 Criterion release in the hopefully not too distant future. I'm just not sure how likely that is considering Warner is pretty stingy with giving up the rights of one of their movies. Paramount on the other hand doesn't seem to be, especially with Criterion.

MGM has the rights to The Graduate.

Also, Criterion's relationship with Warner Bros. has been significantly improving over the past couple of years.

It's fortuitous that I picked today, of all days, to go back and buy more.
My wife and I stopped in a store we don't normally go to, as it's about an hour+ away (we had other business in the area today), and I went in to see if they had the BD edition of The Road Trilogy (my local B&N only had the DVD edition in stock). They did. So with the 50% sale price, the MAD discount, and a 20% coupon, I snagged it for $32, down from $100. Can't beat that with a stick.

Have to wait until Friday (payday) for a last sale batch, though.

(1) They have not sold everything to Warner (actually, Warner has only distribution rights -- they don't own the films -- just in case that's not clear).

(2) It's been a couple of years since Paramount has released any of their deep catalog stuff on BD themselves.

(3) Paramount has licensed a lot of their old catalog to Olive Films.

I finished The Road Trilogy tonight.

Wim Wenders is one of my favorite directors and I was ecstatic to get my hands on this set and explore some of his earlier work. However, the films - while certainly not bad - did absolutely nothing for me. The biggest issue for me was that I could not connect with the characters and their plights. On a more positive note, I thought the cinematography and scores in each film were superb and certainly added to the overall mood of the films.

From the Wenders films I have seen, I would rank them accordingly.

Paris, Texas
Wings of Desire
The American Friend
Alice in the Cities
Kings of the Road
Wrong Move

I have to somewhat agree with you about these films, although I might have enjoyed them a bit more mainly because of the things you mention, cinematography and scores, particularly Kings of the Road, the atmosphere of the film really helped here, the scene with the ticket seller around the midpoint was the highlight of it for me.

I would rank them:

Paris, Texas
Wings of Desire
Kings of the Road
The American Friend
Alice in the Cities
Wrong Move
Faraway, so Close!

There should be at least a leaflet or foldout. The listing indicates "An essay by writer and programmer Kier-La Janisse"

Seems the issue is somewhat widespread based on the Carnival of Souls thread, some other people had the same problem, but it should come with a leaflet, I guess you will need to contact Criterion directly.

Hey guys, I just got started on listening to podcasts and am looking for some recommendations for good film podcasts? They don't need to be Criterion related.

I'm a big fan of Fighting in the War Room. The hosts cover movies and TV, focusing on specific films or broader industry trends. Very unstuffy; it sounds like a bunch of friends talking about movies, which is what makes it work really well for me.

Marienbad, heh, it is the kind of movie that film buffs have to watch with Cliff Notes.

Are documentary movies? Yes or no. I said yes. A coworker said no. Which is it?
