What could I possibly say about Jean-Pierre Léaud's performance that hasn't already been said? His improvisational skills, at 14 years of age, no less, are jaw dropping. You never feel like he's acting; even though Truffaut let him improvise what he was saying within the context of the script, he's authentic every step of the way. You feel his plight. You empathize with him.
I think Antoine Doinel is the greatest character in cinema history, and Leaud's amongst the greatest performances. (I recently had him tattooed on me)

I often think that we were robbed of a great old man Doinel-type tale with Truffaut's death. Truffaut, who was said to have been unhappy with the admittedly somewhat mediocre Love On The Run, was working on a sequel, Le journal d'Alphonse, before his death. I think his notes were released as a book a few years ago, but its never been translated in to English (as far as I'm aware).

Don't mean to be rude but even ignoring the execution, conceptually I prefer the one we're getting.

Probably doesn't mean much, but I noticed Criterion has liked a tweet from someone hoping Hedwig and the Angry Inch would join the collection.

Most interesting chatter on the subject of this box cover. If I were frying an egg and looking straight down at it while wearing orange tinted sunglasses the result would be this cover. Crossing my fingers for a more suitable cover.

Fellow blu-ray.com forum threaders SammyJankis and RojD will also be attending the event.

I've coordinated with them to have a Criterion meet-up at Videology (a bar) in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on Sat. night around 11 PM.

If anyone here who lives in the NYC area wants to come meet up with the three of us, let me know by PM'ing me on here!

It would be great to meet up with others who happen to be in the city. The thread for the event is here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=278120

Fans of Julie Delpy should know that she wrote (even the music!), directed and starred (with Ethan Hawke) in "The Countess," something of a vampire movie. I saw it on DVD. It's real slow, like a glacier.

Nah, seriously though, even if you don't like mine (which is fine), how can you possibly like the other one, which looks like a fried egg with ketchup, a nipple, a pimple, or any other number of creative suggestions people here have come up with. I adore Criterion art, but this is BAD. Even the various color mock-ups (including mine a few posts above the one you quoted) don't look good, because the core concept doesn't look good. Our only hope is that it's really not the final art.

Edit: The other color mock-ups are in the "Before" thread.

Would love to see Criterion get their hands on Is Paris Burning? from Paramount, preferably in an undubbed trilingual version. Kino says they can't issue what Paramount already released on DVD but Criterion can, and the film is begging for a reevaluation and the documentary-style B&W cinematography deserves a Criterion-level BD presentation.

Maybe then can release it at the same time as Paris is Burning.

This is a great documentary, I'd love to see Criterion release it as well. Might not be everybody's cup of tea so to speak, but it's an eye opening look into a world I was never privy to and I don't think no longer exists.

The supplements for it could be amazing, just tracing the influence of it on documentary film, gay culture, and the long tail influence on mainstream culture.

And there was a documentary released this year about contemporary ball culture, actually:

I didn't get to see it, unfortunately, but I heard good things, and while it isn't likely since it's a recent film that would probably rather have its own distribution, it would also make for a fascinating supplement, given that it pretty explicitly billed itself as an "unofficial sequel" to Paris is Burning.

I'm trying to remember a time on this forum thread before The Before Trilogy. I'm sure it existed but nope, I have no memory of it.

Damn you Before Trilogy! Why couldn't you come after?

Sorry for ruining the artwork for you, Polaroid, but I'm glad you're finding some humor in it like the rest of us.

In a more serious note, I have mine preordered through Amazon. Blind purchase, but I've heard great things.

Only ordered Kwaidan and Dreams from the B&N sale. Have been a lot more thrifty than some of you folks, but that's mostly because I wanted to keep within the miserably low import duty threshold in India. Thankfully B&N shipped the items separately too, so they should come through without issue, fingers crossed.
