I think if this disc rot had siriously affected all batches, then maybe a recall or exchange would've been put in place, like Howard's End.

They might still have a few copies somewhere in their office... Nothing wrong with trying at least.

You can contact Claire as well; she's super helpful... hopefully they can get this issue sorted out for ya.

A friend borrowed Brazil and it took her about 8 tries to get the disc to play. But eventually it worked and she had no issues after that. So it could be a player or firmware issue.

I'm crossing my fingers criterion releases a 4k scan of Straight Time on bluray. So many movies in the collection already that are inspired by that film it feels only right that it be added.

My Le Cercle Rouge replacement disc timeline:

10/29: E-mailed Mulvaney (a desperate plea)
10/31: Received response from Mulvaney telling me to send in defective disc
11/1: Sent disc
11/3: USPS confirms disc has been delivered
11/22: I e-mail Mulvaney again asking him/her/it where the hell my replacement disc is
11/23: Mulvaney replies telling me the disc will ship after Thanksgiving
12/6: Received replacement disc and lived happily ever after

"Straight Time" is a masterpiece. I've seen that movie more times than I can count. It's with Warner, so hopefully that'll be one they license out to Criterion at some point. If not, I'll take a Warner Archive release.
