His Girl Friday packaging pictures courtesy of CriterionForum.org.

The disk art is terrific. I like the direction they took with the presentation. Booklets are best but the foldout is nice.

I received The Asphalt Jungle yesterday and did a quick peek and the PQ is excellent. I only wished Eddie Muller did a commentary instead of a 20+ minute discussion of the film but you can't have it all. Edit. OOps didn't realize Drew Casper did the commentary, should be good.

Default Three Colors Trilogy

I will likely revisit these sooner than I normally would as 1) they're not terribly long films and 2) they're thematically pretty rich and demand multiple viewings.

I don't think that I've really cracked any of them, although White was the one I found most fascinating, too.

Now I'll be checking back to read both of your posts.

Trying to purchase gift certs at Criterion.Com and it's adding tax to the order. Has anyone seen this before?

Just wanted to mention I finished the Dekalog last night!

It took me 5 nights.

I watched 2 episodes per night.

And then that final episode... whewww.. so different than all of the 9 previous.

I am going to spend the next 2 nights getting through all of the supplements and documentaries on the next 2 discs and will post my full review after this weekend is over.

Nice. The wife and are have been watching them together which makes it take... a lot longer. We've gotten through 1-7 so far, and then I'll go through all the supplements myself (we're actually watching the Arrow set, not the Criterion one). Then when that's done I'll go through all the stuff that's on the Criterion set, but not on the Arrow set. Quite the undertaking!

That's a great undertaking but its really great to hear of one's wife who also enjoys watching Criterions (I'm not married but I'd imagine it would be a chore as sometimes one's spouse doesn't share the same taste in cinema/music/culture/etc.). I don't know much about the Arrow set but the Criterion one is beautiful! I think I know why Kieślowski didn't make too many films, as this project he took on prob. wiped him out (almost 10 hours of cinema right there!). This was his magnum opus (I've watched and owned every film of his since Blind Chance / 1987).

I just tried to order a $25 and $250 gift certificate to test it and no tax is being added for me.

I think it only ever adds tax to NY and KY shipping addresses, but there shouldn't ever be tax on a gift cert. It's going to charge tax again when I use them.

Arrow release is worth a look. 10.5 hours of supplements, most of which are not on the Criterion release.

My wife likes some of the Criterion releases, and always buys me a few for my birthday and Christmas, but she is not a fan of watching supplements... unless it's a gag reel. But on occasion she does humor me an watch a few with me; usually when it's the last movie of the night and she's ready to fall asleep on the couch.

I watched it yesterday and the PQ is quite amazing. The 20+ minute Eddie Muller bit is good, but wished it was longer. Enjoy!

I had to look this one up:

In Warsaw, a pair of mermaid sisters are adopted into a cabaret. While one seeks love with humans the other hungers to dine on the human population of the city.
I'm intrigued.

Ditto. Sounds kind of cool. And my wife loves mermaids. Not sure she'd like this though.

Her page on Criterion's site (this is her only feature film) and the Janus Films logo on the poster.

I casually started watching Before Midnight which I had in vudu for couple of years...It is so different from what I expected...(I did not watch any previous films in Before Trilogy)

I only watched first 20 mins and it's hilarious!!!

I will finish this sometime tonight/tomorrow.
