I thought Black Moon was an interesting experiment that didn't quite work. It seemed like Malle was trying to make a Bunuel film with mixed results. While I didn't hate it, I would recommend an actual Bunuel or Valerie and Her Week of Wonders over Black Moon if you're in the mood for a dose of the surreal.

It's just too bad the restoration has been heavily tealed, almost on par with Thief. Otherwise, it looks splendid. I had to re-color time the French disc to get the correct colors back and now it looks pretty decent.

I don't know if I dislike Black Moon or Zazie dans le Métro more.

I'm pretty sure it's the former. However, I did find the latter to test my patience and nerves from the very first frame.

Yes sir. Thank you for the mutual agreement on that!

Seeing these stills from the film again, its inspiring me to want to watch this film again.

I frankly find this film to be a meditation in some ways, which is truly lovely.

It's almost like Louis Malle extracted someone's dream (or nightmare) and made a film out of it.

I love this film. There, I said it. I love it!

I watched Black Moon on the Hulu channel and immediately ordered it as the credits rolled at the end. I was mesmerized by it and watched it again the day it arrived. But yeah...not a first date kind of film.

To be honest, it sounds like a "test of how strong of a relationship you have" type movie. You watch it with the person you are dating to see if they run away from you or sits there eating popcorn with you.

This doesn't happen in Black Moon. What were you on when you saw this?
I like Black Moon. I think it's a better 'surreal' type film than Holy Mountain, for instance.

Whoops. My bad.

What I meant to say was a girl breastfeed an old lady and a unicorn.

I think Inside Llewyn Davis might have the best special features package of any Criterion I've seen.

...it has a full live concert for god's sake.

I'd rather watch Black Moon over Inside Llewyn Davis any day.

In fact, I think I'm going to change my avatar now to Black Moon, after 2-3 years of not changing it.

It has been accomplished.

I am now a bird with a black moon for an eye, and blood on my lips, hungry for unicorns.

That doesn't make it any less disturbing.
But I'm still intrigued by what little I've seen on YouTube and by all the comments made here, both pro and con. But I'll definitely watch it somewhere first before deciding if I'll add it to my collection.

Black Moon was interesting in parts (and looked terrific) but I felt it was lacking in a certain energy / vitality that Valerie and Her Week... had. I remember feeling bored while watching it.

I'm pretty sure it's available on FilmStruck. That should help.

I'm not sure if it has been linked, but David Ehrlich compiled a top 10 Criterion list for 2016.
