Some users confirmed that the Criterion intro played before the movie. I don't know how they could do that without having secured some rights again.

They already turned down releasing Silence of the Lambs back in 2011 or 2012, per Peter Becker. Their reasoning was about extras, not a new transfer. Most of the extras they produced were included on the MGM disc, so they would have to create all-new extras (since they seem to think extras are more important than a great A/V presentation, or are at least a bigger selling point). Perhaps they changed their minds now, or had new developments. It's a shame they didn't release it years ago, though, when they had the first opportunity.

I'm aware, but Kino's MisterLime confirmed there's a new 4K scan supervised by Tak Fujimoto, which has recently been acquired by another label. Also, Criterion does have a notable exclusive extra in the commentary track with Demme, Tally, Hopkins, and Foster. If it's with Shout or Arrow, new extras will likely be produced too, but I think a new 4K scan would certainly be something Criterion would consider licensing the movie for now. If it wasn't for the Filmstruck addition I mentioned above, I would have fully leaned towards Shout having it, but I do find it strange that Criterion would have the title back again on their channel with the Criterion logo playing, and making note of the commentsry being previously OOP.

The review is up. Looks like it will be well worth a double-dip.

You can check with Criterion to see if that policy has changed, but if you want to exchange for no cost to yourself, you may have to go back to Amazon.
Last year I contacted orders@criterion.com with a broken blu-ray case and a messed up cover and they sent me a replacement for both, free of charge after I provided them a picture of the damage. Last week I sent the same email address a picture of another broken case I had received, and they asked me for an order # from their site before they would replace it. I had bought this one in a B&N sale, so I didn't have a number. I had also emailed the Mulvaney address at the same time, and they replied a couple days later stating they would send one out for me. I have 0 idea what the actual policy is regarding any of this stuff.

A blu-ray for Personal Shopper seems inevitable.

At this point I'll just take a theatre in my area showing it.

I haven't seen any Assayas yet, so I don't know if its par for the course for him, but I have to say, the trailer for Personal Shopper was not at all what I expected...

It comes to Cleveland 3/24. I don't recall Clouds getting much run here. It seems like more art house features skip Cleveland but our cinematheque picks them up a few months later.

I forgot The Salesman opened at my art house theater last weekend.

I only have another day or two to catch it before it's gone.

Stolen from the film noir thread. Any chance Criterion will take these OOP and onto blu-ray?

Not unless their relationship with StudioCanal has changed for the better recently.

Yeah, I clearly don't get these things. I saw StudioCanal put out Dheepan in the UK so I'm just confused.

I just watched Memories of Underdevelopment (1968) released by Mr.Bongo Films and quite enjoyed it. It'd be perfect for a Criterion release (B&W Auteur film from the 60s). The Blu-ray has no supplements, so maybe a Criterion release will correct this. Anyways, the U.K. version is also region free according to DVDBeaver.

As I'm given to understand it, StudioCanal wanted an American label to license their entire catalog, rather than on a case-by-case basis. Criterion wouldn't bite. Lionsgate did, so they have the license for SC titles here. They gave up on physical media releases for the catalog, but are supposedly still holding onto the catalog because of digital platform rights.

Anyone know if beside Belle De Jour if other Luis Bunuel movies were release on Blu-Ray? I got a DVD box set that came out about a decade ago but it's not been easy to find Blu-Ray releases

I spammed their Twitter page over, and over, and over again for The Asphalt Jungle.

Y'all are welcome.

There are more releases of his movies abroad, but I assumed you were talking US releases only.

That's one of the first negative comments I've seen. Film seems to have near universal acclaim. Do you usually like Assayas' films?
