Had to jump on They Live By Night for $17+. Scratch one off the list for the upcoming sale.

I post there occasionally. I think many of the posters are still all right, but unfortunately the most prominently snarky/snobbish posters are the moderators and they can have quite an attitude.

Just check out this scene and you can probably figure out if it's your bag or not. A question is posed in this scene that I'm sure you've been asked before, Ray. "Did you do a lot of acid back in the day?"

Agreed wholeheartedly. I like this forum better because your posts don't have to be approved. My posts rarely get approved on CF, and I only visit there to see some of the speculation. On this forum, at least I know that other people will get to see my posts.

Anyway, if Criterion releases Night of the Living Dead and Fire Walk With Me in the same month, it'll be one of their best months. If we also got Princess Bride, Tree of Life and Sixteen Candles, it would be the best month of 2017, but I'm not gonna be too greedy in my expectations.

What makes you think The Princess Bride is coming?

It may seem like speculation, but I have a few things to back it up.
1. Criterion and MGM have a great relationship.
2. Peter Becker mentioned the movie in a podcast. He also mentioned McCabe and Mrs. Miller and The in-Laws, which were released shortly after the podcast was recorded. He said that it was one of his favorite movies and that he wanted to release it, but felt that there wasn't anything unexplored in terms of bonus features. However...
3. The movie's 30th anniversary is this year. If Criterion wanted to release it, they could record new cast interviews and maybe give it a 4K restoration.

What's with the falling prices on They Live By Night and the Before Trilogy? Every time I log on the price is lower. Not complaining, just curious. Any other Criterion titles with falling prices?

It's one of my favorite films especially 80s films and one of my favorite Criterion releases along with being one of my top Harry Dean Stanton performances if not my favorite.
It is a very, very, little seen gem from the 80s. This movie has a cult following, that is probably the smallest of all the "cult" status films of the last 35 years. When I worked at a video store, I would recommend it, and customers either really loved it's dark humor, punk ascetic, with some sci-fi mixed in, or told me never to suggest to them again. I always tried to push it. This and Brazil. Great movie making from 1980's Universal.

One of my Top 5 favorite movies. Great 80s era punk comedy.

Criterion just gave us ample amounts of speculation fodder with this ridiculous drop of phantom pages.

I think that list pretty much guarantees The Olympiad.

Really? When most people look at my Criterion collection they comment about never hearing of most of the movies, but they've all seen Dazed and Confused and Repo Man.

They don't recognize Fear and Loathing?

Either that or a massive Olympic-themed box set. Pretty much everyone listed was involved in an Olympic movie.

[Show spoiler]Castleton Knight directed "The Olympic Games of 1948."
Tancred Ibsen did "De VI olympiske vinterleker Osla 1952."
Hannu Leminen did "Maailmat kohtaavat - XV Olympiakisat Helsingissä 1952."
Peter Whitchurch did "Olympic Games 1956."
Rene Lucot did "Melbourne Rendezvous."
Heribert Meisel did "Menschen, Hoffnungen, Medaillen."
Romolo Marcellini did "The Grand Olympics."
Theo Hörmann did "Olympic Winter Games at Innsbruck."
Taguchi Suketaro produced "Tokyo Olympiad" (Kon Ichikawa is obviously already listed)
Claude Lelouch did "Grenoble."
Jean-Jacques Languepin did "Les Neiges de Grenoble."
Yuri Ozerov, Arthur Penn, Michael Pfleghar, and John Schlesinger did "Visions of Eight."
Jean Beaudin, Marcel Carrière and Georges Dufaux did "Games of the XXI Olympiad Montreal 1976."
Drummond Challis was on both "Visions of Eight" and "The Burning" (see below).
Kieth Merrill did "Olympic Glory" a documentarty short film.
Gu Jun did "Dream Weavers: Beijing 2008."

The others:
Lee Kwang-soo ?
Douglas Copsey was in "Bronco Billy."
Louis Gueguen ?
Nobusama Kawamoto ?
Giorgio Ferroni did "Mill of the Stone Women" - October Horror from Criterion?
Tony Maylam did "The Burning" - October Horror from Criterion?

Kawamoto was involved in Tokyo Olympiad. No idea on Lee Kwang-soo, unless it's somebody else he's primarily done bad rom-coms if I'm not mistaken. Penn and Schlesinger (I would've thought he'd already have a page for Sunday Bloody Sunday) are interesting, maybe Midnight Cowboy and Bonnie and Clyde?
