"Eight Men Out", "The Bad News Bears", and "Major League" are easily my three favorite baseball films. "Bull Durham" is close behind though. I think it's Costner's best baseball film, largely because Ron Shelton played minor league ball and it contains many great vignettes reflective of his experience.

They really like Tim Robbins over at Criterion. Bull Durham is a solid baseball flick but I'd never have guessed a Criterion release for it.

I don't think so. Often it's just from insider sources, or you'll see a film pop up at an Art House website mentioning that it's sourced from a new 4K restoration, etc..

Any notable film that has had a so-so release before is probably fair game.

Speaking of Tim Robbins, someone, anyone, needs to put out "Tapeheads" and "Bob Roberts".

Yup and even though I'm not generally a fan of re-releases like this I would much rather have Criterion in that scrum than not.

Some Like it Hot has a 4K restoration too, I would expect a Criterion or Arrow Academy release this year.

I've given it a plug before, but Sugar is such a great film. A baseball film, but about so much more than just that.

My favorite 'baseball' movie.

"LET'S GET INTO TROUBLE, BABY!!!" I doubt, however, that any boutique would release Tapeheads on spec.

As for Bob Roberts, they'd have to pry it out of Lionsgate's stingy hands, but I'd love to see that happen, too.

To be fair to the whole re-release argument, Bull Durham would certainly benefit from a new release. The current MGM disc is sub-par, getting a 3.0/5 for PQ from the site (and 3.5 for audio), and it's completely barebones as far as extras goes, save for a couple of trailers for other films. So while this one certainly wasn't at the top of most people's most wanted listed, I think a new release from Criterion or whoever is most welcomed.

Yeah, "Bob Roberts" is a pipe dream given how much Lionsgate sucks. I've been a big fan of "Tapeheads" for many years. That movie is a real 80s classic.

I have the Anchor Bay DVD of Tapeheads with the "Swanky Modes" CD sampler. I'm really hoping someone releases that on Blu-ray sometime, and like you, I don't care who does it. There are so many quotable lines from that movie, and the Cube Squared "Baby Doll" video never fails to completely crack me up.

Well, the Silence of the lambs deserves it since it's a new 4k scan.
And i think NOTLD is a new scan too?

But even if Bull Durham is a new 4K scan, again I don't consider it a high profil title like TSOTL.

That would be epic!

Criterion going in the world of TV series releases with the complete (so far) series of Spongebob Squarepants!
(and no, I'm not kidding)

One of the reasons I try to be measured when discussing these things is I'll go absolutely batshit if they announce a Spinal Tap do-over. The current disc is watchable but there's massive room for improvement.

So I can shrug about Bull Durham but that's about as far as I can go without looking like a total ass later.

edit: saaaaay, wait a minute. A rock and a ham? A rock ham? Could it be???
