I'd add Knife in the Water (1962) to this. It's just too hard to pick one, but any of these would make me happy. Not counting on it, though.

The reason I said Anti-Region A for SC. Some of my favorite recently released films are Region B StudioCanal:

Le Corbeau
Casque D'Or
La Prisonniere

Qaui Des Orfevres
Touchez Pas Au Grisbi (Amazing Film)

Not to mention titles that were in the collection like:
Hobsons Choice,
Fallen Idol
A ton of Great Ealing Studio films have been released like Kind Hearts and Coronets
Ran new restoration
Last Year at Marienbad new restoration
The Third Man
Empire of Passion
Contempt
Le Quai Brumes (Port of Shadows) Another amazing film.

And a ton more. SC has one of the largest libraries of films.

While I'm region free I just think its a shame that so many important classic titles don't get Region A releases. This lowers the chances of curious film lovers seeing these great movies as blind buys. Many won't take the chance if they have to go region free and import. While Criterion would likely do an amazing job with a lot of these films getting new 4k restorations.

As far as the 2010 Ran released here it's known to be highly scrubbed & cleaned with all kinds of artifacts as a result and a unacceptable lack of grain. The recent restoration looks much better as far as detail and grain, but has a color tint to it. From what I read Criterion was prepping Ran for Bluray when the rights were lost.

Another vote for Shop Around The Corner. I have the DVD copy that with the You've Got Mail Blu-Ray. It's a fine DVD, but I'd love a Blu-Ray release.

Criterion changed the cover for Some Like It Hot.

This is better, but still not great.

Okay, Criterion, now let's get a new True Stories cover.

I liked the concept of the old cover, but it wasn't well executed. Looked a little too much like a 9th grade art project.

What's your opinion on Kurosawa's Dreams? I've never seen it and I'm really intrigued about it.

So Criterion was posting Instagram stories with the upcoming titles and all of them were confirmed titles except this one:
[Show spoiler]
I've never seen it but I guess it's Cassavetes' Husbands?

UPD: Ok, it's also Ben Gazzara's birthday. So maybe it's not about an upcoming release.

DVDBeaver review of Scenes from a Marriage: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCom...ge_blu-ray.htm

Judging from the screenshots, I think the compression is awful...

It's certainly an unconventional film, but I liked it, being the first Kurosawa I've watched. It certainly lives up to it's title- the film has a dream-like flow to it, scenes just pass by, with no "true" conclusion to any dream. I recommended it, but you may have to be in a mood for it.

The presentation is absolutely beautiful on it, BTW.

Never thought I'd see the day. And I'll be seeing the film in a theater in a couple of days.

It didn't really grab me. It's artistic and beautifully made, but it's not something I will likely go back to over and over. Maybe I need to give it another go. I've had other films that required multiple viewings to fully appreciate.

Wasn't that the last Kurosawa released? Really wish we would get Red Beard. Toho showed a new restoration of the film at the Venice film festival in 2015. Kept thinking Criterion would announce it.
Though I really want Stray Dog. I feel that film could really benefit from HD. The DVD is really lacking in contrast, depth and detail.

Just want to put in a word for a title rarely mentioned here:
"Tanner '88" by Altman.
I just watched this and really enjoyed it. It's classic Altman style with lots of characters / overlapping dialogue / intersecting plot-lines, etc. It's also really interesting to see the parallels and differences of politics now and 30 years ago.
It's only on DVD, but an upgrade is pretty unnecessary since it was shot on lesser cameras. But I do think it's a great value. It's only $30 ($15 during a sale) and that includes 11 episodes, about six hours in total.

Yes, films that aren't on blu (and probably never will be) tend to get overlooked around here. Doesn't mean they aren't worth talking about.

I also would mention another Altman, Secret Honor!

I really want Stray Dog and The Bad Sleep Well . Both of them have Japanese releases and Stray Dog has even been released in France back in 2016.

I haven't got around to Dreams, since the synopsis hasn't interested me and its not a film I feel confident blind buying.
