Don't forget folks, the override may have been taken away from the managers for coupons. Several posts pages ago said that is what happened. You may only get the members 10% on top of the 50% off. The $5 coupon can be tendered, but the system may be setup since July so that an override cannot be done. Like I stated several pages back; online, it will either take 10% off through one of the library, military sites or take 1 coupon. But it will not allow you to use another discount on top of that now. There site used to allow the 10% and a coupon, but not anymore. The same may happen in store.

I am stating this, because it has been confirmed by a few and honestly I can already see the pages of moaning about them not taking the coupon even with an override and "I will never buy from them again" etc,etc.. Let's enjoy the sale for what it is, a sale, not a life changing event. Now go out and spend money the good ole' fashioned american way.

BTW, I will finally get that Cassavetes set for a good price...

However, looking at the new in-store coupons that are available, it states "a minimum B&N Selling Price of $20 - and will be deducted after all other discounts, including the standard Member discount, are applied. The B&N Selling Price is the price at the cash register before taxes and discounts, including the standard Member discount, are applied."

So, the fine print of the coupons seem to have contradicting terms from one sentence to another. To me, the first sentence in red sounds as if the $5-off discount is only going to be applied if the selling price of $20 is reached after all discounts have been applied. Then, the second sentence in blue, though, completely discredits the previous sentence by saying the "selling price" is before any taxes and discounts. Am I reading that wrong?

My main concern is with repeated use of coupons. The last time I tried to use the $5 coup more than once, the system flagged it and wouldn't allow the coup to be used more than once with the same customer account number.

As it's becoming impossible to override the system in place, you may only get one shot at using any coupon.

I know, great minds think alike...

BTW, B&N is sold out of Seven Samurai online. You cannot even order it, which could affect ordering come sunday night/monday if they still don't have it. Sometimes their backorders take 2 weeks!! Kudos to those who got it for a good price days ago. Also, House is now $24 on their site. Use the 15% coupon and it comes to about $20.50. Great price!! Hopefully this doesn't sell out too, could affect ordering come sale time too.

Howdy. I work at a Barnes & Noble retail store so I can help clear this up a bit.
The first sentence is totally accurate. You no longer get a 10% discount online, with a membership; the membership now gives you free express shipping, regardless of the $$ spent.
Regarding the second sentence, if you have a membership with B&N, you still get an extra 10% off in stores. And we CAN override the system, if needed. Some employees/managers just don't want to.

Now if only I could stack my employee discount on top as well......

Online, they have a MUCH better system of tracking who has used which coupon. In store though, it isn't the case. Just don't hand over multiple copies of the same coupon and you should be fine, in store. I have no problem accepting multiple coupons on the same item, provided they are different coupons.

So you are confirming that a B&N employee will be able to obviously take the 10% members discount and be able to take the $5 coupon at retail level, even if they have to override? They can override the $5 coupon on top of the member discount and sase price? This has been confirmed at store level?

Oh what the... Something tells me they just disabled it in time for the sale. I don't buy that it's due to being sold out, as last sale they had no problem stalling my order for Black Narcissus for 2 months before shipping it.

Yes. The member discount is always on top of discounts, in store.
and be able to take the $5 coupon at retail level, even if they have to override? They can override the $5 coupon on top of the member discount and sase price?
There is no actual "override" option. An employee simply takes the coupon or doesn't. The $5 member coupons are tricky because of the contradictory nature of how it's worded. One employee will read it and interpret it as "I can only take this coupon if the price is $20 or higher AFTER discounts" while another will read it and interpret it as "I can only take this coupon if the price shown is $20 or higher". The $5 coupon cannot be CONFIRMED as working at every store but I do know that I have never had an issue accepting the coupon.
This has been confirmed at store level?
"Confirmed", no. "Accepted", yes.

Stores really do have a bit more "freedom of interpretation" than the online store. Just don't go into a store expecting miracles.

I generally find that being nice to the sales associate helps. I ask if they would mind doing or trying what I would like them to do and if they say no, I accept that. They're pretty much doing what they think is right and won't get them fired.

Just watched House. I'm definitely happy I saw it, it was very... unique. Glad that I chose to rent, as opposed to blind buy, though. It's not exactly my cup of tea, and I doubt it's a movie that I would rewatch.

Does anyone know if Ikiru has been rumored for a Blu release? I'm contemplating buying the DVD, but seeing as it's Kurosawa, and a fairly popular title, I know the moment I do, it will be announced for Blu the next week.

Hey...what's with this guy "wormraper" on the "Barnes and Noble Criterion 50% off sale - November 2010"?

I don't think that he is welcome at all on OUR exclusive little thread!

Wormraper...I guess that sums it all up!
