Possibly for Eclipse, I still need to get the Bergman, Allan King, Sacha Guitry and George Bernard Shaw. But that's pretty much it. Still going back and forth on the Renoir "Stage & Spectacle" set.
Just:

Night of The Hunter blu
Rohmer set (which has been long due for me)
and either the Allan King Eclipse or a combo of Hausu/Paths of Glory/Modern Times (maybe).

After the sale, can't wait for the BBS set. I already got the Von Sternberg silents when they were $40 in early Sept, so glad that is out of the way.

Antichrist, Night of the Hunter, Modern Times, and maybe one or two older Criterion releases like Paris, Texas is what I'm aiming to get.

You've mentioned the Rohmer set, I was looking for some Criterion DVD Boxsets to buy, but I'm still sceptical when it comes to buying DVDs. Is this doubt reasonable?

I stopped by B & N a short while ago and had them hold (3) BD titles that they had in stock (Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, Charade, and Vivre sa vie). Still thinking about the Godard title...we'll see CG.

Got the Nov.16 titles already ordered and will buy Sherlock Jr. as well that day.

I ordered a copy of "3 Silents" to play it safe (might take a week or so to get to the store), but will be watching "The Docks of New York" later tonight.

I'll place "Underworld' next up on my queue...thanks guys!

Well as someone who still buys dvds as much as anything, I would say buy whatever you want.

But I highly doubt a boxset like that will be out on blu-ray anytime soon, so I think you'll be safe. If you need opinions, just list some you are thinking about and we'll TRY to tell you based on opinions if they MIGHT be up for a blu upgrade.

Well here's the list of the DVDs I was considering to buy:

Berlin Alexanderplatz
Letters from Fontainhas: Three Films by Pedro Costa
Pigs, Pimps & Prostitutes: 3 Films by Shohei Imamura
Three Films by Hiroshi Teshigahara
Eisenstein: The Sound Years

and I'm considering buying Made in USA, 2 or 3 Things I Know About Her (I'm a huge Godard fan), Slacker, Two-Lane Blacktop, and Vampyr (a huge Dreyer fan too) on DVD

There is absolutely no way Berlin Alexanderplatz will ever be on Blu-Ray for a ton of reasons.

I thought so, the same goes for the Pedro Costa movies (shot on location with natural lightning), and if Eisenstein gets a release it wouldn't be much of an improvement. That's the reason I've bought Rossellini's War Trilogy and the 3 movies by von Sternberg.

I say your safe for all of those sets (I want that Costa set too) but maybe an outside chance for those Eisenstein films to be on blu. Made in USA & 2 or 3 Things should be very safe.

Things like Two-Lane Blacktop and Vampyr (while I say get them), they could very well become blu upgrades in a year or 2.

Hey CG...on The Docks of New York. Which score would you suggest? The Robert Israel score or the other one?

So, my netflix copy of Hausu came yesterday and I had a jolly ole' time watching it last night. I had not seen the film in a while, so was a little excited. After viewing it again, I am honestly glad it will not be a title I will pick up at the B&N sale. I just cannot bring myself to understand why I would watch it again and again. It's a great little film, but I think it just falls into that category. Anyone think differently about the rewatch on it, considering all the releases this year?

I watched it last night for the first time as well. I may need to re-visit it soon as I was very tired at 10 pm when I started it, and may have missed some stuff. It was very interesting, and I thought it was hilarious at how cheesy the beginning was.

Already pre-ordered the 3 single November titles (BBS box coming from Family Video), and I plan on picking up Kagemusha, Summer Hours, and Black Orpheus to finally complete my collection!

The Rohmer set is among my top sets to buy but I recommend it for those who love films with intelligent conversations. Also, the set includes the short film collaboration between Rohmer and Godard and more. But it comes down to if you appreciate films of the French New Wave and whether or not you are willing to wait and see if one or all of these films in this set will ever be released on Blu-ray. Don't limit yourself to great cinema just because it's not out on Blu-ray.

"Berlin Alexanderplatz" is very good and this sale is probably the best time to pick up this set because it's quite expensive. For me, the "Eisenstein" set was a must-buy during the sale.

I personally feel that "Two-Lane Blacktop" is one of those titles that Criterion will release on Blu-ray, very cool DVD set though but I just have a feeling that this is one titlte that will be released on Blu. As for "Vampyr", another solid set...and actually scored this and the Arkadin set together for $24 on eBay (yeah, I was shocked the person was selling it for that much via buy it now only). As for "Made in USA" or "2 or 3 Things I Know About Her", personally...I would get this after you watched (or purchased) several of Godard's other earlier films.
