My top wish is Darren Aronofsky's "The Fountain." I'd be especially thrilled if there was an alternate cut included. I remember reading that he'd be interested in trying a different edit.

Criterion has Ghost Dog? If so, hope they release it soon.

Still waiting for more Hideo Gosha. Hunter in the Dark is my dream release from them.

I hope they will announce the Europa trilogy into one set with The Element of Crime (1984), Epidemic (1987) and Europa (1991). The City of Lost Children is also another movie that I feel like is long overdue for a Criterion release.

How's the quality of the existing blu? I only have the DVD.

It looks OK at best. Old VC-1 on a 25 gig Blu Ray with a low bitrate from 2007.

A 4k scan on a dual layered 50 gig disc would most definitely show significant improvement.

There are a couple available, but the transfers are questionable and certainly don't showcase the visual brilliance of the films themselves. e.g Baby of Macon and Drowning By Numbers.
There's also Eisenstein in Guanajuato, Goltzius and the Pelican Company, The Pillow Book, and A Zed & Two Noughts. Also, I just now found out there's a Spanish The Draughtsman's Contract BD being released tomorrow!

Criterion needs to do full restorations of John Woo's THE KILLER and HARD BOILED, which they released on LaserDisc and DVD. The existing BDs for both are wanting, to put it mildly. If they really wanted to be the heroes of the world they could do a Woo Heroic Bloodshed Collection, featuring the afore-mentioned titles as well as A BETTER TOMORROW 1 & 2, JUST HEROES and BULLET IN THE HEAD. While there's a nice 4K-sourced (but BD-25) release of A BETTER TOMORROW 1 in Hong Kong, the rest are upscales on HK BD, if they're out at all (JUST HEROES didn't even receive an English-friendly DVD release).

Then they could follow it with a Milky Way Image Ltd. collection, profiling the early films (THE ODD ONE DIES, THE BIG HEAT, TOO MANY WAYS TO BE NO. 1, THE LONGEST NITE, A HERO NEVER DIES, etc.). Now I'm really fantasizing.

It's a great box set. Has such classics as Great Sexpectations, and David Cop-a-feel.

This is correct. Back in the day, those DVDs sold for an outrageous price, and the current blu-rays are basically DVD quality. They desperately need to get these back. For many, it was what let them to the Criterion label. Then do Ran, damnit. And this thermos. And this chair. And this paddle ball game. But seriously, they need to get back Hard Boiled and the Killers.

I have a gut feeling we're going to see a major release in the announcements later today. Maybe from a big director like Scorsese, Welles, or Kubrick.

I’m also hoping for a reissue of American Graffiti. It’s one of my favorite movies of all time, it’s a landmark film, and is in serious need of a new scan. Universal’s existing Blu-ray has an ancient DVD-era master. I’m sure any new transfer would need George Lucas’ approval though.

Let's hope so. I know I'm probably the only one that feels that but their 2019 slate so far has been underwhelming.
