If I recall correctly, there was a poll in this particular forum a few weeks back about whether or not you were a troll, as well. I was shocked to find that the majority of the users voted did, indeed, vote favorably that you were a troll, it12.

I, however, did not agree with those conformists. I voted 'goblin'.

I'm intrigued by all this, but it looks like someone cleaned up the slipcover thread. Oh well, ya snooze, ya lose.

Where were you last Friday when Criterion sent out their new e-mail newsletter? If you go back to Friday's posts (page 939, post #18771) you'll see the image clue that was in the newsletter. This clue leads to the speculation of "Blow Out" being released by Criterion at some point down the road.

Oh, okay. Yeah, I don't get any newsletters from them or whatever, but that's a pretty cool clue. I enjoyed Blow Out a lot last time I saw it.

I tried to give this Director another shot because i thought Wings of Desire was ok at best but if i were to watch another Wim Wenders it would be Wings of Desire. I'll give to movie credit for the pros but there's way too many cons. I dont wanna crap on the movie entirely but i felt like it was just boring. It did have its good points especially the bonding between him and his sons, i thought those parts were pretty warming but everything else was TRASH. I probably wont ever watch this again. EVER.

Only if you like Wim Wenders

2.5/5
Sorry you feel that way...I guess there's no pleasing everyone. I guess the fact that it won numerous awards must mean that some/most people felt that it wasn't "trash".

Festivals/Awards:
1984 Cannes, Golden Palm (Best Film)
1984 British Academy Award
1984 French Film Critic's Prize
1984 German Film Prize in Silver (Production)

When something is pretty unanimously considered "great," then yeah, awards can absolutely mean quality.

In the same light, just because something is quality doesn't mean you have to like it. So that isn't a very good argument.

You are correct...and I have no problem with someone giving their own opinion about a film. But I just felt the comparison to "trash" was unnecessary.

I actually don't mind the digipaks, but I know they'll get beaten up over time if I don't switch to plastic. Thanks.
They cover the artwork end of the bargain, you cover the booklet end.

Well generally, Yes. If people that are trained in films and the making of a film say that a film is great, or better yet, has merit, that does mean it is quality. Are you going to believe a butcher that tells you his meat is quality, or some kid at the grocery store that says "its stamped quality, sir" Opinions from non-experts are just people that want to hear or see themselves speak. But opinions from people that are experts in the field they comment or work in, should carry meaning. If they define it as a quality film, then it is quality, not trash. You may not like the film, but be prepared to say, Why? He used a word that was not correct for his "review" If you want to attempt to be professional, then use the correct terms. Simple enough.

Depends on the award. I find the Palme d'Or to be a pretty good measure of quality. Now, The Oscars are a whole different animal entirely.

Not a problem, my man.

I have been procrastinating doing it to the point that I think I'll just live with my digibook versions, hah. I rarely, if ever, take my cases off the shelf, so I'm not horribly worried about them getting over-worn. Good luck!

Palm D'Or is as useless as all other awards. The Class winning unanimously in 2008? Give me a break.

Saying something is "quality" is completely subjective. For the record, I think Paris, Texas is great. lDlisturb3d thinks it is mostly trash. Listing the amount of awards its won or citing an "expert" is going to do nothing to change his opinion. It is not a "quality" film for him, and the fact that it won a Palm D'Or won't change that, sorry. Listening to "experts" and taking their word for what is good and what isn't with something as subjective as film is flat out stupid and lazy.

Sorry to hijack this thread but seriously;

"America Lost and Found: The BBS Story" is going to be my first day 1 blu ray purchase.

Having Criterion blu's of "Easy Rider" and "Five Easy Pieces" is pretty much worth the price tag alone.

Oh boy oh boy damn it all to hell, it's on its way; Nov 23!!!
