I was debating whether go with this particular B&N sale or to just skip it entirely and go for an even larger haul during the Criterion flash sale in the fall. |

Posted this in the B&N Criterion promo thread as well:
Little tip for those who want to boost their Best Buy dollars to become/remain Elite this year and don’t have the time to stop by a store to purchase a physical B&N gift card: Best Buy also sells digital e-cards for B&N for immediate use. $25 and $50 options. I bought two of the $50 GCs shortly before opening this morning, and got the e-mail with the code within minutes for use at the store. |

I only ordered 3 titles this morning:
[Show spoiler] The Cameraman: Well, Keaton. I love him. The Lady Eve: This has been one of my most-wanted since I started collecting blu rays. Stanwyck and Preston Sturges. Henry Fonda is just gravy. As soon as I found out the B&N sale was live, I quickly canceled my Amazon pre-order. The War of the Worlds: I'm not really that big of a sci-fi fan, but the pulpy/comic-book style cover art and the extras sold me on this one. The Cameraman and The War of the Worlds are blind buys for me. With so many sales happening lately, I've got to spread my spending out a little. Hopefully, I will be able to put in another order at the end of the month. |

If Criterion ever starts to release 4Ks, would love to see these:
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg - not sure if a native 4K restoration is possible, but the HDR/Dolby Vision would be a great addition as the colors are vibrant and pop. Young Girls of Rochefort - not sure if a native 4K restoration is possible, but the HDR/Dolby Vision would be a great addition as the colors are vibrant and pop. Wong Kar-wai films - These are getting a 4K restoration and are likely getting a box set in the future. The transfers for In the Mood for Love and Chungking Express already look great when they were finished in 2K. Looking forward to the new restored looks of these films, I can imagine the detail and colors will look even better. Parasite - There is already a 4K for Parasite and it looks fantastic, but it doesn't come with the Black & White version. A 4K disc of the Black & White version would be a great addition. Memories of Murder - This is already getting a 4K restoration and it should be part of the Criterion Collection in the future. One of Bong Joon-ho's greatest films behind Parasite. Raging Bull - I'm not sure if this one is capable of a 4K restoration, but it was shot on film. So, I think it would have a 4K DI. Raging Bull is turning 40 this year and a 4K would improve shadow detail and get rid of some banding. Punch-Drunk Love - There's not many PTA films in 4K, just Phantom Thread so far. Punch-Drunk Love would be a great 4K restoration. One of the rare performances of Adam Sandler and it has a lovely blue color palette that would surely pop even further in HDR/DV. Three Colors Trilogy - I would love to see these in 4K, some of the best and most purposeful use of color in any film. There's not any Juliette Binoche films in 4K that I know of, so these would be a first. Hard Boiled and The Killer - These were released on Criterion on DVD, so it's time these get a new restoration and it'd be great if they can release these two John Woo classics in 4K for the first time. The Blu-rays do not look very good at all, so definitely would love Criterion to re-release these. |

Just reserved Blood Simple, Rebecca, They Live By Night, and My Darling Clemenine for in-store pickup. There always seems to be one that online says is in stock but they don't have. In this case, it was Battle of Algiers. I'll look myself when I get there.
I can report whether I get a 10% member discount when I check out in store this evening. |

Depends on the store, but it's not automatic since ISPU are considered Online purchase in their system (like the instore ship to home is considered In-store purchases). Some managers will override and apply a manual discount, other stores force you to go through a return/repurchase.

Just got back from my local B&N and picked up:
Bamboozled Blue is the Warmest Color Blue Velvet Rosemary's Baby Night of the Living Dead Vampyr And I bit the bullet, and got the Ingmar Bergman Cinema box set. I couldn't find Portrait of a Lady on Fire or Come and See, but it's okay. Maybe I'll get them later. |

The sale was popular at my local Barnes and Noble today. Nice to see. My pick ups below. I also wanted Eric Rohmer's Six Moral Tales, but the copies they had sold, so I ordered a copy. She told me it should come in before the sale ends, but if not she said they would honor the sale price. Happy!

Managed to get an order in (The Baker's Wife and The Cameraman), and picked up Volume 3 of the Buster Keaton Collection since Cohen Media's also having a 30% off sale on B&N right now. Disappointed that so many are sold out, but not surprising considering the crush the website must be getting in lieu of in-person sales at their stores.
Honestly though, between Criterion Channel and what I've already bought, I'm kind of just waiting announcement to announcement for ones that I hope they'll release eventually (like blu-rays of Written on the Wind and Floating Weeds). |
