Default Bladerunner Blu-ray

I have the director's cut of Bladerunner on DVD. I am curious how much better the Blu-ray video really is. Also, can you purchase the Blu-ray Bladerunner movie disc without getting that whole collector's set with the alternative versions and extra material?

I purchased Bladerimmer for $19.95 from Amazon. I can't wait to see it, but I have not choice. The LCD is being hogged up again and I can't get to it. Sheesh.

It's a superb blu-ray; amazing picture especially given the age of the film. The extras are really worthwhile too. The features contain a number of deleted and alternative scenes with commentary on why they were dropped.

You could almost make a movie about the making of this movie, it was a long and difficult process, but wow, what a great film it is.

It should be in your blu-ray collection.

I find little if anything to complain about concerning the treatment both Blade Runner and Close Encounters of the Third Kind were given for their Blu-ray debuts. They are the definitive collections for each film. Sell the DVD and buy the Blu-ray. I seriously doubt there will ever be a need to repurchase either of these titles again ...but you never know!

The Blu-ray PQ completely blows the DVD away. The opening sequence alone will make you . The Tyrell building looks 10x more imposing and ominous with all that extra detail.

Blade Runner is the gold standard for early 80's transfers, IMO. It definitely deserves a place on your shelf.

Not when I checked today. Even though they jacked up the price you have to spend at least $25 for free shipping - right?

Its way better on Blu. The sound is for sure better. Since the movie has alot of dark scenes, it can be hard to tell but the brighter scenes look amazing. Plus its fun to watch all 5 versions of the movie and see the differences.

There is no comparison when watching the Blu-ray edition of any version of "Blade Runner" to the director's cut DVD. The audio and picture quality on the Blu-ray is simply stunning! And my favorite version is still the theatrical edition with the Deckard narration and "happy ending" sequence. Buy it ASAP!

I completely agree. There's no comparison between the standard DVD and Blu-ray rendition. I was slack-jawed when I saw the difference, and did a quick comparison. It's not even close.

Original poster, this is a mandatory purchase in my eyes. If you're still unsure, just rent it first and do a comparison yourself. I think you'll be quite stunned.

It's Night and Day..... I resisted double-dipping, and picked this up from Half.com for $20 shipped, so I couldn't pass it up.... and I'd pay $40 to replace it now if I had to. It's a great Blu.

If you have a decent HDTV and BD player it is amazing, if you
are looking for a title with a "wow" factor, this is one of them.

It's a reference Blu-ray as the PQ is as good as recent movies, the different versions only have a few scenes changing, especially the ending.

Is there a site (not requiring a subscription) that details the differences between the three cuts of the film? This "work print" cut has me intrigued, but damned if I can find anyone who actually lists what's different about it from the theatrical release and the so-called director's cut and the "final cut". As for the "final cut", I don't know what's different about that either.

Thanks.

Also Wikipedia has an entry on versions of Blade Runner, although it offers little detail about the workprint (which I confess I have yet to watch).
