Gotta disagree big time here. D9 has some documentary type news footage camera work, but it's not simulated hand-held camcorder like Cloverfield. Cloverfield made me queasy at one point, and I have a strong stomach. I never noticed that all with District 9.

Another thing i forgot to mention is that the film does a particular look to it. I'm glad that Cloverfield was mentioned above cause it reminded me of it a bit, but with a lot less camera shaking. It's a great transfer though IMO, but it will not have the same look clear look as something like Braveheart or I, Robot where there was that sharpness of colors and everything was very detailed and bright. It has somewhat of a roughed out look to it, which is how it was filmed.

I actually felt that there was more shaking of the cam in Cloverfield and I didn't like it. District 9 didn't bother me.

I gues what I am saying is that the shakey cam BOTHERED me more in D9, not that there was MORE of it. In Cloverfield it felt more real, as an actual character was filming the events. In D9, when the news guy was filming the events, that worked for me just fine. But when shakey cam was used in other parts of the film, it seemed unrealistic. Thats how it felt to me.

I can't wait for this movie to come out, I saw it in the theater and it is such a good movie on many levels. If one is just watching it as a sci fi/action movie then you are watching the wrong movie. This sends out a message to anyone that is in a refugee/hostage situation. Countries where people are treated like the alien's in the movie really connect with them and feel for them on many levels.

I havent seen it yet but wondered if there is a pro-immigration slant to it? If thats the case, Im not as interested as I was before. I like Sci-Fi and all that but I dont like movies with heavy-handed opinions or political messages.

Just curious.

No, it doesn't really give a "pro immigration slant". Don't let your political views disrupt your ability to enjoy a great Sci-Fi film.

Well at least it didn't have God crap like most Small Sci Fi Production. That's why i hated the ending of Sunshine, great small production Sci Fi until it turn religious again...

Btw i have nothing against any religions, i just find that every single scifi movie turn to it (espacially small production)

Nah, you're right. I usually dont do that. But, if the film is blatantly politically driven(in either direction) I tend to stay away. I get enough politics in real-liffe, I dont want it in my movies! This doesnt sound like the case here.

Cool.

This movies political overtones are about as subtle as a jack hammer. I wouldn't say it has to do so much with "immigration" as much as "segregation" and the mistreatement of a certain people group (in this case it's a representation of S.A.'s apartheid).

I will say that this movie is wonderfully crafted and for me personally, it was one of the most fascinating Sci-Fi films I have ever seen. As blatant as the political message is, I found it was also very easy to forget the political lessons and become immersed in the movie experience as well as the lives of the characters.

I would easily recommend nothing less than a rental.

This is one movie I can think of that has great CGI effects that were actually worthwhile. I was shocked how good and clean the ship looked.

Would an anti-immigration slant be OK?

Unfortunately, we live in an age where many people are just itching to be offended or have their sensibilities ruffled by virtually anything that may tiptoe outside their comfort zones. The film does have instances of satire and allegory in it, and it is thought-provoking on some levels, but it is a far cry from being any sort of political propaganda.
