D9 was a blind buy for me. I enjoyed the movie. The realistic look and feel and the documentary approach was very unique. The thing about it though is that because the majority of the movie was so much like a real documentary, I do not see myself re-watching it too often. If I do, I think I will end-up fast forwarding to the last 15-20 minutes of the movie. But I do agree it was a good movie. I disagree that it was better or worse than Avatar, IMO, you cannot compare the two. To me it is like comparing SiFi Fantasy (Avatar) with SiFi History (D9).

this is the best documentary style movie i saw so far, the movie in the middle looks like heading for a disaster, then at the end it pick up to speed and turn out to be an excellent movie.

Very much worth the purchase, enjoyable and really good PQ. The ending was a little BLAH but overall great movie added to my collection.

To each their own indeed, I quite enjoyed it, but you are certainly entitled to your opinion that the movie sucked - no need to apologize. But seriously, worst movie you have ever seen? Really?

Just looking at your collection, which for the most part is pretty great, I see at least a few in there that are universally panned by critics and normal people alike, and that you can't possible say D9 was worse than. And I'm not even including Reign of Fire because I really like that one myself.

As someone who was also totally uninteresting in seeing Avatar (I was seriously thinking that James Cameron was falling flat on his face in calling this his magnum opus), and who has been completely unimpressed with 3D movies, let me just say that this could be the one and only time that the movie more than lives up to the hype. The movie is full of cliches and there are many movies out there that parallels can be drawn to, but the 3D experience alone (not to mention the best CG effects I've ever seen) is worth the price of admission, and actually enhances what would normally be a sort of ho-hum sci-fi flick.

As a film District 9 is far better, but as a cinematic experience it doesn't even compare to Avatar in 3D.

Actually....it had too many explosions and was too Hollywood for me. Big robot suits? I wanted a heavier/meatier STORY.

Fired up my copy and had a browse yesterday. Awesome quality.

Only turnoff is the start with the trailers/previews. Friggin Moon trailer in 480 resolution. What an eyesore that was! Thought They put in a DVD instead of Blu-Ray.

I just got done watching this for the first time on Blu the other night. And I must say it was much better for me the second time. Now I did enjoy it the first time but it was so different from what I expected that I left the theater a bit in the middle. I liked it but was somehow let down.

Now knowing what kind of film it is I REALLY LOVED IT. I actually got pumped up rooting for the two heros this time around. The first time I was just trying to figure out what I was watching I guess. I don't know.

Anyways, Great film and Blu Ray!

This was a total blind buy for me, and i hadn't watched any trailers or read any reviews (with the exception of the Video & Sound score here on Blu-Ray.com), so i went into this movie with no expectations, or even the slightest idea of what D9 is about. After watching it once, all i can say is "WOW". I was stunned by video, audio and the movie itself was an incredibly refreshing experience for me. I can honestly say i have never seen anything like it, and that is just really cool. I thought the progression of the movie was great, and Sharlto Copley's acting was surprisingly good to say the least. I am very happy i didn't know a thing about it before watching it, and this first experience makes D9 my best Blind Buy to date. I'll be watching it again soon.

Avatar is not the best thing since sliced bread, there are a number of films I perfer than Avatar. I did like it a lot and do think that it ranks as a top Sci fi film of this decade or any even if the story was "borrowed". The difference in my opinion of the two films. I went into Avatar thinking it was going to be crap but the mrs. wanted to see it so I went and left the film surprised. I watched D9 knowing I was going to love it and by 45 minutes into it I was ready to turn it off but finished it thinking it would get better. In MY opinion it did not. D9 had a great concept, but I think it would have been better without all of the action. Trust me, know one was more disappointed than me that I didn't like it. I thought I would have liked it better than Avatar. The marketing was great for this film, the film just didn't live up to it in my opinion, but apperantly your opinion is better than mine and I should just bow down to your supreme intelligence

I have some clunkers in my collection that I hold in high regards even if they were panned. But when I watch a movie I don't sit there thinking "I wonder what Roger Ebert thought of this film" I don't let someone else tell me what I should think about a movie, I watch it and make up my own mind. I may have been wrong when I said worst ever, but I would say it was the most disappointing.

Oh yeah, screw critics, I agree, I was just having a hard time believing you could really think District 9 was the worst move you had ever seen - I can buy most disappointing.

My most disappointing movie of the year was The Hangover - a lot would disagree with me there - but I wouldn't say it was the worst movie I saw this year.

agree on the blu ray quality
I actually found the last third of the movie to be the best-- not just the action but the emotional plight of the main character was effective to me--
I was a little disappointed that I didn't think it was more than a "good" film--
it is very different so I'll probably watch it again down the road sometime to see if it grows on me more...

Yes it did, both the obvious in your face plot, and the many subtext plots and social commentary hidden with in this fun film.

Finally got around to watching my copy the other night and wow, it was great looking. Forgot how funny this movie is when you manage to not think to deeply about its real world ties.
