Was on the edge about even seeing this one, so I redbox'd it and I'm going out to pick it up on Tuesday when I get Hurt Locker!!! Awesome movie! And I usually can't stand sci-fi.

Lightbulb TO District 9 owners:

Hello folks, I'm new to the Blu-Ray world - I have a PS3 and have only 2 movies: The Dark Knight and District 9

TDK is awesome, as many of you know.

I have a quick question about D9 - mine is playing in a sort-of full-screen mode. - I have a widescreen TV - but the black bars I'm used to seeing in EVERY movie, even on TDK are non-existant on D9 - but the quality of the picture is fine and doesn't seem stretched.

Does this film play this way on your BD systems, folks?

I see on the review's screen shots very tiny bars on the bottom and top - but I have none.

I'd appreciate any information. Thanks.

Default Screen Size

Its fine the movie was set at a 1.85:1 screen size. So that means you will have about a little black bars on top and bottom. Plus The Dark Knight has widescreen so that is 2.40:1 so that will be big bars on top and bottom. Also Dark Knight has Imax screens. But District 9 is a great movie of 2009. I have to say best of 2009 would be Inglorious Basterds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes your tv is fine. It's just not a WIDESCREEN movie (2.40.1) If you notice... the first 6 minutes of The Dark Knight are also FULL SCREEN because they filmed it in IMAX. Also the tunnel chase scene i believe. Anyway if a movie says its 1.78 or 1.85 on the back of the box it will FILL your screen. And anything that says 2.35.1 or 2.40.1 will have black bars.

Not just my favourite, but THE BEST OF '09!!!

It was easily the most entertaining while offering so much topical context without forcing any opinions down your throat. It presents plenty of fascinating issues that can be transposed into many different civilizations across the entire globe while simultaneously leaving each topic open to the viewer being able to obtain their own perspective on them. There has not been a Sci-Fi film so successful at doing this effectively since Blade Runner.

Default THE District 9 Plot Hole

I noticed this the first time I watched it, and was reminded of it again recently - did anyone else notice the fact that the alien was squeezing every last little drop of that black shit out of stuff, and had just finally collected enough to do what he had to do (JUST in time to beat the relocation - drama!), and then Wickus comes along, sprays a relatively large amount of it all over his face, but there's still enough of it left to move the spaceship? If alien dude had been collecting it for years, Wickus's spill should have brought the amount down to where it was at least months earlier.

Loved the movie, but just sayin'....

Surely there's something better you could be doing than thinking of plot holes in D-9. This movie isn't "The Usual Suspects".

Do you know what plot hole means? Because what you just described is not a plot hole.

If a significant part of the plot is that one of the Prawns had been saving black shit up for years so he could get home (and was on the verge of doing so until Wickus busted him), you don't consider it a hole in the plot, that he was still able to travel home despite clearly not having enough of the black shit anymore?

In any event, if I perhaps am not perfectly familiar with the term "plot hole", I certainly know how to recognize an *******.

I have a small question about the packaging.. There's been a good many releases that came out since November that I haven't been able to get and I've been trying ebay because funds are low.. my question is does the packaging have a slipcover or is it just the case? it's not really a make it or break it situation but if there's a slipcover i'd like to get one that has it too. the only ones I've seen with a slipcover have been with the God of War demo, but everything else doesn't have one and from what I remember, I think the GOW demo was an exclusive somewhere (Best Buy maybe?) so I was just wondering if it comes with a slipcover or if that's just with the GOW demos. Thanks

It comes with a slip. The GOW demo version is NOT an exclusive, as I've seen them at both Target and BB.
