Anyways, I see people questioning others about what they like vs. what they don't like. I loved District 9... but I can certainly understand it's not a film for everyone, and I'm fine with that. I enjoyed it, and that's all that matters.
I loved the movie a lot and I can watch it again and again. Its one of my all time favorites, even better then the Avatar. The CGI is as never before seen. The Aliens looks so real and believable. Like I said maybe my eyes are used to HD so much that I find it not very great picture quality wise. the detail is very very sharp I agree but on some scenes (Specially dark ones) the image is not so clear!

That could all be part of your TV's (projector, etc) settings (or quality). I still think D9 is one of the better looking movies out there. Case in point, I thought Daybreakers looked great when I watched it the first time. I then watched it with my brother and his family on their HDTV and didn't think it looked half as great.

So, its OK, but I think over hyped.
It's a fantastic film, and why were you expecting something like Aliens? The themes of both films are completely unrelated.

I watched it on my Bravia 32 full HD and yes I agree that when I watch my old BDs which I found amazing at first viewing looks normal picture wise eg The Godfather and not to mention Wall-e as well

I watched District 9 for the first time pretty recently too, I liked it a lot. Impressed with the use of CGI and shaky cam together. I'll see D10 when and if it comes.

Default Pretty good.

I didn't like it. I was not in the mood for a documentary when I saw it. Someone actually said that. I liked it ok myself, Sharlto Copley was great.

I just wish it didnt have to devolve into a somewhat chintzy action/shootout towards the end. They had it setup nicely and then hionestly, the final act was a bit of a let down. Still - not a bad flick at all. I think the message itself maybe carries more weight than the actual film though. Thats fine and all. Im glad some people could really connect with it.

Its not cinematic excellence though - I shouldnt even see movies like Alien mentioned here for comparison. They are different films and Alien is a pure classic of epic proportions. District 9 is good - not classic or epic though.

I forgot how good this film was until I watched it again this past weekend. I hope they make the followup that was rumored.

I guess each to his own but I was so disappointed in last year's Oscars when District 9 did not win anything. Best movie went Hurt locker, what a Joke that was.

it is in no way, throw your brain outside the door. I'm sure it relates to everyone that lived in a tent before and refugees as well.
District 9 had a point and a message.
For me it was.. Simply have to throw my brain out for the movie to work, otherwise it is just way too illogical. Still a entertaining flick. As for Oscar's I can't think of any category this film would win in, unless there is something for low budget that still has some pretty nice visuals.

India/Bollywood My review

guyz i just got this district9 blu ray in india by EAGLE HOME VIDEO
my quick verdict on the disk

Movie
well the movie is released quite a while ago so no point me writing its review now.....two groups are already formed the one's who like it and the one's who don't....well i liked the movie but am not a huge fan of this.

Picture Quality
well the indian version (authored by digital entertainment) its a really strong transfer.this is near reference quality.we here in india dont get much too see a movie in 1.85:1 aspect ratio so iam quite hungry for these movies which make the full use of my screen this movie shot on red one HD camera yields excellent results and details the close up shots pop out of the screen. the colour timing is near perfect and there is no hint of contrast boost and the movie has quite a vibrant colour pallete and there is no visible artifacts or any amout of DNR applied. pure demo worthy material out here

Sound Quality
the movie has a english DTS HD-MA (48KHZ,24 bIT) as well as an AC3 track.i did'nt listened to the ac3 track while reviewing this movie. now comming to the dts track it sounds pretty good.the track has a good dynamic range is very powerfull and effective in presenting the movie and matches the picture frame by frame. though its not the best mixes i've listened to (iam biased towards INdian (bollywood) movies...beacuse every bollywood movie is musical mostly all (approx 99%) movies have excellent audio mix with great use of all the speakers and discrete surround effects....despite the genre of the movie....many drama bollywood movies sound much better than many hollywood action flicks)....anyways the track is quite satisfactory

summing it up

Movie 7.0/10
Picture Quality 9.5/10
Sound Quality 7.5/10
Extras ??/10 (did'nt get the time to watch them)

overall 8.0/10 (Recommended)

Just picked this up on BD at Walmart for $7.88.
The older lady cashier who rang up my purchase, looked at the cover
and said she couldn't finish watching the movie.
I asked her why and she told me it made her sick, because some the scenes were to gross and graphic.

"...pass the cat food please!"

Thanks Seymour.

I found a vortex 2-disc case and replaced it with that. Slip is still a tight fit. Hah.

Does anyone know if the Digital Copy is still good? The case says expired but I wasn't sure if it had been reactivated, like Warner Bros. had done.

Was there ever BD-Live content for this title? Clicking it now (tonight) takes one to a screen that simply tells you to see the SonyPictures.com/blu-ray Website--click "Ok" and you're taken right back to the main BD menu.

(And I just tried MIB and got the same result. It looks like Sony has abandoned their BD-Live support.)

Indeed, Sony has. Found more discussion on this here:
