In time, I just hope that a sustainable business model for high quality consumer OLED displays evolves (calling on all you early adopters, Geoff's already done his part). The inclusion of a 3D LUT in the Panasonic model is a big technological step forward. The ultimate, you ask? in years to come,

If you mean what’s in the actual Ultra HD Blu-ray pipeline right now, no public list yet, other than Fox’s announcement.

But now that the Federal data breach lawsuit has been settled (http://www.wtvm.com/story/29947060/f...ed-lawyer-says ) and barrister skullduggery has been revealed ( http://deadline.com/2015/08/iatse-el...ld-1201510836/ ), the time is fast approaching for the Leader of the 4K world to step forward with an update since this last interview…..
http://www.theverge.com/2013/1/8/385...1oesYsa_S9SDz3

or a V.P. or at least a Director, because the industry (BDA) has established physical media standards. Some things actually happened rather quickly, like 4:2:2/4:4:4 being voted down on the very first vote by super majority in technical committee in favor of 4:2:0.
After Kaz had already put down the idea of 4K on disc (http://www.theverge.com/2013/1/8/385...ly-but-not-out) I'd LOVE to hear what his - and by proxy Sony's - thoughts are on the new UHD Blu-ray format. Something tells me he won't be swinging from the chandeliers in delirious delight.

oh well, just another anonymous tuxedo-clad Academy award winner, with a rather *energetic* sense of humor, especially when onstage.

For the sake of those who weren’t there for that fabled Scientific and Technical Academy award presentation that Saturday, to give y’all an idea, the acceptance speech started like this.….”It’s an honor to be here competing at this year’s annual Olympics for Geeks, uh, we are….***** Riot in drag”. Depending on your point of view, the speech went uphill or downhill from there, but I can tell you that the audience loved it and he is the brains behind movie making at Technicolor....and the whole industry for that matter.

I was confused by the question until I noticed the address of one of the links provided and was greeted by the weather radar from the neighboring market's ABC affiliate. Cloudy, but no lightning strikes so far...

I've been around... I just don't post much.

I appreciate the link you provided in the post afterwards, as that was a little more what I was looking for. I wasn't looking for actual release announcements ala Fox, but rather an idea of what to expect.

It appears that the three of the four non-3D titles I was considering buying this year had 2K DI, but I may consider holding off anyway. I'll think about it.

This is about as close as you are going to get to a review of the CZ950 for a while. (probably November 2015)

https://www.avforums.com/review/pana...d-review.11860

Also from Hinton regarding the 3D LUT in the CZ950:

"Once you start removing brightness/luminance the colours get darker (less saturated) and the triangle would actually start to reduce and the points twist if you were to measure the effect in 3D real time as you reduced them. The LUTs make sure that when this happens the colours are hitting the correct points as luminance is removed. This requires a lot of processing power and Panasonic are the first to make sure this is implemented correctly (and to market the fact).

https://www.avforums.com/threads/pan...#post-22559157

If the CZ950 lives up to the marketing promises and the content creators give us those deep blacks and highlights that Sowa says they will; and if OLED prices approach price parity with LCDs as Panasonic predicts will happen in two to three years, will there be anyone on this forum who dares to profess themselves a videophile not have a 4K OLED in their signature, say by 2018?

Have you looked at any of the UHD stuff on YouTube? Some of it is quite amazing. The Sony PXWZ100 can produce pictures that are quite striking. I am use to HD cameras that had viewfinders that cost way more than the PXW camera system. I capture the YouTube videos on a portable HDD then play them back with a Sony FMP-X10 and VW600 projector.

Most likely not unless they are at least 133" scope size and cost less than 10K. Been a projector kind of guy since 1985. Trust me, size does matter .

As i already predicted, we aren't going to get any complete 4KBD info until CES.

Now that LG might actually have some competition, an OLED may well be on the shopping list. I've got nothing against the tech whatsoever but LG's processing has never, ever been as good as your Panasonics and your Sony's, and I'm so glad one of them two has entered the OLED fray.

I'd say is a guaranteed fact Panasonics OLED will be the best.

Quote:
Because OLED is a self-illuminating technology very similar to how plasma works, they wanted to point out that issues such as the shift from absolute black to just above black is something they have managed to achieve where others can’t. The knowledge built up from the many years of perfecting plasma image quality translates extremely well to the similar way that an OLED image is driven.

Absolute black' is important, but having the correct 'just above black' gradation to the image adds more depth and presents the image as it was intended to be seen, not crushed at the low end
The LG OLED is not so good at this. Even the 7 year old kuro is superior to the LG. Uniformity is another one. Good that Panasonic is solving all those issues the LG has.

Finally, the RED folks have acknowledged the value of HDR (with something other than in camera HDRx) and stepped up to the HDR plate at IBC with HDR monitoring output in PQ (ST 2084) support available (with some but not all of their cameras) - http://www.broadcastingcable.com/new...ologies/144152

In the future, as we advance further and further with HDR implementation becoming the defacto imaging standard (as opposed to the historic (and truncated) display range known as ‘SDR’, which my buddy Mike still clings too ), practically speaking, one of the most relevant issues those thinking ahead (post production costs) will be concerned with is which camera….the REDS, the Sony F55/65, the Alexas? will provide the most noiseless image for colorists to work with in post because.....noise is unfriendly to HDR grading.
