Too bad there isn't still a DCP .pdf file.

Star Wars TFA had a 2K DCP and that's confirmed.... Same for In The Heart of the Sea.... So that link means nothing because 4K projectors can play 2K DCPs as well...

That's just the Sony PJ upscaling, VUE list the 3d version of force awakens
And this is from someone who lives in and loves my local showcase deluxe

it's the same thing Universal did with 'Jurassic World' - given it's source 35mm/65mm, the 3D conversion required it to be downrezzed to 2K; and since both 3D and non3D versions are encoded on the same DCP, doing a separate 4K DCP was out of the cards. I'm really hoping Disney releases 'The Force Awakens' on UHD where the 4K files are retained/not downrezzed.

JW wasn't finished @ 4K though, according to Penton the source DI itself was finished at about 2.4K.

Wasn't 3d once touted as the saviour of cinema and indeed home cinema?
Looks like the reverse now

Sony did the same thing with 'Spectre' it was nearly a full on 4K workflow til the DI process.

2K DI is so backasswards now a days...

Yes, I do had my doubts seeing 'In The Heart of the Sea' there too listed. That was indeed a 2K release.

Upscale it is. Ignore my message then.

I've never understood how and why 3D wasn't achievable in 4K, being in stuck in 2K has been a huge detriment.

GotG Vol 2 is shooting in 8K (link) - it'll be the first MCU film since 'Thor' not to be filmed with ARRI digital cameras.

But will it actually get a 4K finish? Aye, there's the rub...

How do you know the DI was 2K? It may have upscaled VFX but that's par for the course.

Especially when RED will probably end up using a small sensor anyway, though I haven't read up on the 'Weapon' admittedly. First I've heard of it, looks like the Dragon is already yesterday's news!

It's 35mm full frame, I know of someone with a dragon.
I want nothing to do with it
