![]() ![]() Another nice thing about the upcoming 4K OLEDs (which, for that matter do/will also drift over time, but nowhere near as quickly as plasmas) is their greater off-axis viewing (compared to LCDs) which becomes especially important when mastering in HDR in that it allows a couple (or more) viewers to *comfortably* sit in front of the displays and still view an accurate extended dynamic range image further off from center. |

Sicario was in the top 2 of my favorite movies for 2015 and Roger Deakins supervised the grading of the traditional (SDR) Blu-ray master. I’m hoping that he becomes more vocally friendly to HDR as he becomes more knowledgeable and experienced about it, like other Directors and DPs have.
I’m wondering if Lionsgate will go on record and reveal who oversaw the HDR iteration (the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray) of Sicario. |

2 questions:
1-is upscaling 1080P to 4K a noticeable difference? Worth the investment, for that feature alone? I currently have an Epson 6500ub, 1080p. 2-not sure which projector I want for native 4K. JVC DLA-X750R or 550R. The only major difference I can tell between the two models is native contrast ratio. There's a $3,000 difference between them. Is the contrast ratio difference worth that much extra money? 120,000:1 native vs 40,000:1 native. Any help would be immensely appreciated! Last edited by paperthin567; 01-15-2016 at 06:54 AM. |

IMF 1.1 is going to be released in a few months and will support HDR, HFR (up to 120 fps), and WCG (the Rec. 2020 color space).

I know plasmas drift (all display tech do). It's not calibrated, i'm just using D-Nice settings.
I recently unlocked ISF day and night. Amazing picture modes, especially regarding shadow details, but way too bright. I prefer a less excited subdued picture. Wondering if a calibrated HDR set will see those bright highlights toned down. It goes against the whole idea of it, but i think even if you reduce the light output you should still be able to see the difference in brightness range. |

I could be wrong but isn't ACES more of a post-production pipeline to actually finish the film, whereas IMF is more about collating those finalised elements into an interop distribution format? It seems like it's more of a competitor for DCI rather than ACES.

In a nutshell you are correct. For further reading and documentation, there’s an app for that - search Penton word ‘IMF’, for examples ….

![]() b.t.w., that article provides a nice reminiscent look back to the pedigree of the ETC (Entertainment Technology Center) of USC, which, back in the day, waaay prior to the development of IMF, their Digital Cinema Lab served as the testing ground (with the aid of Christie CP2000 Digital Cinema Projectors, etc.) to hammer out the DCI specs of which members like MisterXDTV are so interested in…. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s#post10295245 |
