Was very thrilled to see Roger as the DP for this movie. Sure hope it is a good movie.

Same here. I'm tired of mediocre cash-in's.

I know what you mean. As an analogy, I no longer mountain bike race much at all now so I enjoy it vicariously…I hope someone wears a 4K GoPro helmet-mounted cam during the Olympic men’s race tomorrow in Rio at ? 8:30 A.M. (PST), to see if Peter Sagan takes the holeshot from the rest of the field ….

Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk will premiere in 4K/3D/120 fps at Lincoln Square and is expected to play there that way theatrically (though perhaps just at that one theater according to the NY Times).

It will however, go out as 4K/3D/60 fps and 4K/2D/120 fps to capable theaters, as well as standard 3D and 2D formats naturally.

Still hoping for an eventual west coast installation for presentation of the native format as mentioned to fits last May.

As to what’s happening on the TV side of things with regards to HFR (100/120 fps), the goal (quite ambitious I might add) by some Europeans is to have, by June 2017, a live 4K, HDR, HFR demo thereby having shown solved production, transmission and display impediments for this combined set of advanced video parameters.

Especially for sports, HFR is valuable because with traditional broadcast frame rates, the action is jerky or blurry and even when you select the motion interpolation mode of current consumer TVs, there can be a tendency to lose image detail. For example, in a presentation used by some in the industry to demonstrate the fallibility of the best motion interpolation, there is a clip from a track meet showing a javelin disappearing while flying thru the air over a grassy field.

The use of video overlays for replays can throw off the cadence detection too when using interpolation, e.g. every time there's an instant replay on my TV the image stutters for a few seconds as it tries to lock on, but as soon as it does the feed invariably goes back to the live action and it stutters again.

I always thought a good test was to watch football and see how the ball looks when traveling at speed. I wonder when we will get a UHD HFR disc? An Olympics highlights disc would be an obvious candidate, especially as Warner seem more interested in reissuing The Hobbit discs in a ridiculously priced set rather than getting UHD discs out at the moment.

some servers

Also, there will need to be some special instructions to projectionists for set up to ensure that the exhibitions go smoothly with the HFR versions; otherwise….

On an HFR presentation note, a reminder for those who live. or are visiting thee area .

Alas, a heads-up on that was posted months before the Ultra HD Blu-ray spec was published for public consumption, here….https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...oy#post9686716
and nothing has really changed peoples’ minds since then as to 48.

No 48 but there is 60p in the UHD Blu spec. Fingers crossed that Billy Lynn gets a 60p release on disc!

I recommend everyone download that and have a read, it answers several common questions as to UHD Blu's specific implementation of Dolby Vision, amongst other things (page 17).

I will and try where I can, like always. Sully is no exception on my 4K DCP hunt.

Enjoy Amsterdam.

Name more than one theater in America that can do 120fps 4k 3D...
This is a joke. It will never be seen the way it was shot (except for a handful of people).
