There's at least one and maybe as many as three titles there I would buy...and that's an improvement over what's available now.

But really, "...THE 4K FLOODGATES ARE OPENING..." ?

That hyperbole is a bit embarrassing.

I couldn't care less where it came from first, does it really matter? Even more trivial than the who gets the scoop first on the bi-monthly TT announcements. It's beyond trivial actually. I like how Bill summarized the releases so he did contribute something even if it didn't come from him first.

That's what I hate about the studios the most, everything is always a dam secret. They know what is coming for the year just give us a list and be done with it.

In the meantime, for some 4K (not upsampled, but native, of course) movie info - see the included creativeplanetnetwork link and a potpourri of other things in the preceding and following posts to munch on while I’m absent from the forum.

Until now, Rian Johnson has only confirmed that Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi was being filmed on 35mm. Today, Imax sent out a press release saying some sequences were shot on Imax 65mm film, just like The Force Awakens. Hopefully it will be more than one scene this time.

Yeah, the main films, or Saga stories as they're calling them now, are sticking to film instead of digital, at least until this trilogy is done. And even though it doesn't specifically say 65mm in the press release, the picture shows a big ol' Imax film camera in their Skellig Michael, Ireland filming location.

Colin Trevorrow is planning to shoot most of IX (if not all of it, which I doubt) on 65mm, going to be sick

Actually, that's still not confirmed (although likely, especially now that 8 is doing it). It's an odd story.

In November '16, Kodak issued a press release titled Film Revival Gets Boost with New Large Format 65mm Processing Facilities in the UK

A site called the Playlist noticed a line in there about Episode 9 using 65mm and wrote a story that got picked up by everyone else: http://theplaylist.net/star-wars-epi...5-mm-20161111/

But if you go to the official Kodak press release now, there is no mention of Episode 9: http://www.kodak.com/US/en/corp/Pres...UK/default.htm

Luckily, the British Cinematographer copied and pasted the original press release for posterity: https://britishcinematographer.co.uk...facilities-uk/

Here's a comparison:

Old deleted section
Quote:
Director Christopher Nolan, one of the industry’s leading champions of real film, shot Kodak 65mm for Warner Brothers’ dramatic WWII thriller Dunkirk (DP Hoyte van Hoytema FSF NSC). Also set-to-shoot on 65mm are Lucasfilm/Disney’s Star Wars: Episode IX (DP John Schwartzman ASC) and Disney’s The Nutcracker And The Four Realms (DP Linus Sandgren).

I think maybe Kodak wasn't supposed to let that cat out of the bag yet. Maybe Imax wanted to announce it later like they just did with Ep 8.

Or, for those who might be driving from hither to yon (for example from Indian Wells back to LA or Orange County after the HPA Tech retreat ) and so as to keep your eyes on the road rather than some device with a screen, here’s an audio podcast covering a little of the acquisition and some insides of the post involved in Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk….

is there any further news on this? I was thinking about pulling the trigger on Apocalypse and Days of Future Past with HMV's 2 for £30, but if a DV version is coming, I'll wait.

They could put them out with X-Men Origins and The Wolverine when Logan comes out or they could hold them for New Mutants.

I see on videoeta.com that Universal will release many Movie Cash + Blu-ray releases on May 16. Among those are The Mummy, The Mummy Returns and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. All of those will also get a 4K UHD release that day.

The interesting part is that Universal also will release some other Movie Cash + Blu-ray releases on the same day. Can it be that those are also headed for a 4K UHD release? The titles in question are:
  • Van Helsing
  • The Scorpion King
  • Jurassic World
  • Dracula Untold
