Hey Penton !

You got this one over the 5M+ views now, should we start betting on the date and time for the 6M event?

Say a beer ?

(Oh, btw, did you get the Sony update for HLG over HDMI on your TV? This should mean the HDMI ports went to 2.0b, which should mean DV over 2.0b is possible as well? Sony did not mention the 2.0b HDMI in their notes, but it goes hand in hand with the HLG, yes?
I'm calling it Phase 1, for the DV to get completed in the (near) future.)

Last edited by gkolb; 05-21-2017 at 01:48 AM. Reason: added HLG notes

As sad as I am that Guardians isn't a 4K finish, I feel like we probably aren't getting it on UHD this year anyways, so it's hard for me to be bummed all that much. I hope we do but... I just don't know.

Again, Disney was one of the FIRST studios to release on Blu-ray.

They held off on DVD for a while, going with the ill-fated Divx format discs at first.

First, this thread’s got to overtake the current 5 million viewership reigning Champion, namely the Club…. https://forum.blu-ray.com/forumdisplay.php?f=61 buried half way down the page.

Yes, I did receive HLG HDR playout capability with the recent firmware upgrade.

Now that the display end link of the chain is coming into place, here in the U.S., I’d really like to have live HLG sports content (even if it were only a native HD production because the thing is, most of the broadcast equipment chain we’ve got right now is capable of doing it). Though, I am envious of the high rez HDR HLG of Japan….

I’ll detail a bit more as to the first bullet point ^ –
high dynamic range test charts like those from Sarnoff and DSC labs.

Just noticed that there are two new 4k trailers being released to theaters this week: Murder on the Orient Express and Logan Lucky. The former being shot on 65mm film. And the latter likely digital since it's Soderbergh.

WTF ! Sony was all about "Mastered in 4K", and now they're down in the gutter making 2K dcp's. What in god's name are these folks doing?

g, the tide began to shift much as the result of two watershed events, namely when the Technologies Unit was closed down and ‘Mr. 4K’ (who coincidentally just recently spoke at this dinner honoring S.S. -
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...c#post13732174 )

1. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...it-lays-673386
and
2. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/beh...orks-4k-769488

I suspect there will be rebirth of thee old robust interest in 4K finishing when large rollable OLED screens make it into consumer’s homes.

They're being cheap and greedy as are most of the other studios...

There needs to be some sort of fraud alert on the fake 4K stuff, with $$$ consequences. If it's not 4K content over x% of the movie, it should be marked as such on the package. People who don't care about 2160p, but DO care about HDR can be happy, but people who want the real deal will show it with their wallets.
I'm long over the upscales. Ready for this format to actually start maturing as advertised.

Didn't want to create a new thread for each of these, but someone else can:

Canadian eOne distributer site Zeusonline.ca has a few new UHD releases up for pre order that release in September:

September 19th

Conan The Barbarian
Legend Of Hercules

September 5th
Cabin In The Woods
RED
RED 2

Thanks, yes I know that.

Just frustrated that this will finally get the 4K remaster treatment for the 20th anniversary release in 2037 (yes, just my prediction).

There was already a 4K trailer. Now the 4K DCP is confirmed:

Murder on the Orient Express (2017)

This should look fine on 4K Blu-ray, shot on 65mm.

Got word back from the DP:

Quote:
It was shot on 65mm Film, Panavision System 65. We are going to scan at 8K and then make a 4K Digital Intermediate.
