it's pathetic that much of the few 4k DI releases to theaters of late are just about the only releases NOT getting UHDs but being stuck with blu-ray, pathetic, won't buy

I Know! I’m still holding out hope that Little Women and Last Christmas will eventually be released somewhere in 4K.

When are all these 90s classics going to come out in 4k? The Rock. Con Air, Face Off, Gone in 60 Seconds (yes all nice cage movies lol), Armageddon, Tombstone, Training Day. There are so many out there that we need in 4k!

Most of those are with Disnee who are pretending that R-rated material no longer exists in their dojo. If we're lucky we'll get 4K remasters on streaming one day but disc? Highly doubt that.

I sure hope. Last Christmas had THE sharpest 4k DCP I have ever seen in my life, I think even sharper than Passengers! and with even richer colors at times. Gah, it would have been THE reference for UHD quality, certainly for detail and that feeling like you are literally there. Such incredible PQ they could've sold it to the UHD crowd as being a reference disc alone and so sold it to not just people who liked it but even to people who are even crazy about the genre (it was one of the better of it's genre I'd say, certainly in any recent time too).

It's really sad that Downton Abbey, Last Christmas, Blinded By The Light (not 100% sure this one is 4k DI but I can say the blu-ray definitely doesn't seem to show the same details, I recall seeing the individual strands of fabric in his shirt in some scenes and on the blu-ray you just can't make that out at all and some other things seemed less detailed on the blu-ray too, quite a few other things) Little Women can't get UHDs!

All 4k DI (well not 100% sure for BBTL, but seemed like it, certainly lot more detail than the blu-ray) that looked MUCH sharper in the theater than on blu-ray disc (well can't compare for Little Women yet, but can guess).

I refused to pay for them other than for BBTL knowing that such vastly better theatrical masters exist (BBTL I was suckered into by originally being so afraid of all the DVD only talk was relieved to see the blu-ray). For Abbey and LC watched copies others had.

In theater (well in the exclusive Dolby Cinema version on fan event night only) Abbey had some the best use of HDR I've seen in a Dolby Cinema and then Last Christmas simply would have been THE reference UHD for pic quality (seemed even more detailed than Passengers! and had some richer color at times).

So not only did they stick like almost all of the recent 4k DIs on blu-ray only!!! They stuck two that might have been among the best or even THE best of their kind (Abbey for highyl effective and natural use of HDR and Last Christmas for insane, crisp detail combined with even richer colors at times than Passengers). Insane! Meanwhile boatload after boatload of 2k upscales and even some UHD for titles with no fame like Little Women or not even as much tickets sold as for Last Christmas, much less Little Women and of titles that literaly nobody has ever heard of, yet none of these can they put on UHD.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

The newly restored Tokyo Godfathers has a 4k DCP. A first for GKIDS, I believe.

I know you mean territory wise. However both titles are available in 4K/HDR on Kaleidescape.

I appreciate this isn't a platform for everyone, but the fact they are there, may give some additional hope that they appear in disc form somewhere.

I would strongly recommend everyone here checks out the 4-minute anime short 'Sol Levante' on Netflix as soon as they can.

It's their first hand-drawn 4K/HDR animation from Japan. Also comes with Dolby Atmos. It's mostly a tech demo, but a gorgeous one, both in terms of its art direction and its animation.

Here's a couple BTS videos, showing what they're hoping to be able to accomplish within the anime industry in the near future:

Dora (never saw the show, the movie was actually surprisingly pretty charming and very watchable outside of what you might expect the target audience is, very self-aware, lots of self-irreverent humor and yet without offending any kids or people who grew up on it I wouldn't think) is another of the few recent(ish) releases that had a true 4k DCP (even at least Dolby Cinema level HDR too) and yet only gets a blu-ray. Crazy, there are barely any films with lots of CGI that the studios even bother to get 4k finishes to and then one of the rarer than hen's teeth ones that does.... no UHD. It's getting insane.

I think over the last year like maybe what 5% of new releases of the last year have gotten a 4k DCP and what like maybe only 30% of those got a UHD?

Meanwhile like 80%+ of 2k finishes got a UHD! Jeez. And they still have the nerve to brag FOUR TIMES SHARPER on every package and then they wonder why people are like gee 4k looks barely sharper than 2k, the 4k aspect is a waste unless you have a 300 foot screen, arrrrrr.

So I mean we have just in the last year alone all these 4k finishes not getting a UHD:
Dora (vibrant color! looked good), Blinded By The Light (some vibrant 80s color at times, some scenes looked very crisp; blu-ray has less pop to some colors and looks noticeably less detailed for some scenes), Little Women (beautifully shot, better than blu-ray detail), Last Christmas (sharpest, most detailed 4k dcp of all time and has some rich color at times; blu-ray doesn't even rate in comparison it's so inferior), Downton Abbey (crisp and some of the best natural indoor use of HDR; blu-ray looks very weak in comparison although maybe if you'd never seen the special one night only 4k HDR showings you don't know the huge bit you are missing), a dozen episodes of Friends remastered in 4k for theaters (sharper than the blu-rays look and with vastly more vibrant color), Underwater.

also (ones that got a 4k dcp but no UHD but that I have not seen and so can't really comment on): Late Night, The Goldfinch, Unplanned, Amazing Grace

I'd actually care about the 4k/wide gamut color on these more than most of the few that did actually get a UHD (some of which were very drab color and not super scenic; while the ones that did not get a UHD often have amazing vibrant color and/or HDR and many had amazing detail including Last Christmas with all time best ever detail in a 4k DCP).

also old titles that recently got theatrical 4k DCP re-releases but no UHD within the last year or so (many more like The Sound Of Music (more detailed than the blu-ray looks, how is this not on UHD yet), Beetlejuice (somewhat more detail than blu-ray and very rich color at times looked good, for sure better than the blu-ray), Big (more detail than blu-ray shows and some vibrant color at times that just is not there on the blu-ray), South Pacific (more detailed than blu-ray looks and better color at times too), West Side Story (" "), Carousel, Titanic (much better detail than blu-ray), Wall Street (missed the theatrical DCP can't comment), etc. if you extend the 4k dcp theatrical re-releases a few years back):
My Fair Lady (more detail than the blu-ray shows, looked very nice)

and then there are the no US UHD but do exist or perhaps will exists ones (at least not nearly as bad as for the cases where there simply is no UHD anywhere):
Little Women might actually get one overseas now
Apollo 11 (US can be a main player in putting a man on the moon but can't even put out a UHD)
The Girl In The Spider's Web

sure I'm missing some stuff
