Since one of the respected presenters in the videoclip from the Super Session ^ (notably Dr. McCarthy, who has authored several papers in retinal processing and has earned a Ph.D. in Bioengineering) only had time to briefly speak about visual acuity (in particular hyperacuity)…..for new readers to this thread who would like to learn a little bit more (since it is applicable to beyond HD displays, i.e. 4K and 8K tvs), I’ll refer you to this past post from last February…

Whether the upper and lower lines of dots are blurred or not, the visual system is equally able to detect a difference in their positions.” See…
http://arapaho.nsuok.edu/~salmonto/v.../Lecture21.pdf

Or, think of it in this way. Two lines must be at least 1 arcminute apart to be assured that they are seen (by people with ‘normal’ 20/20 vision) as separate (resolved), but a misalignment of only 1/10 of this value can easily be detected in two abutting lines, see…
http://www.scholarpedia.org/article/Hyperacuity

And so, one might then ask, as a smart person, what is the accepted objective measurement for Vernier acuity? One arcminute, like which forms the basis of the cnet article(s) doctrine?
Hardly, again see Table 1 in the provided link…it’s more like 2-10 arc seconds!

I mean really….some tech reporters should realize that the above information is all “basic biology” to imaging scientists. Actually, the more interesting research/debate is advanced along the lines of what are the mechanisms which cause the reduction of Vernier acuity in the elderly, of which logMAR charts…. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ar#post6698239 are valuable as measuring devices. Research into that - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3293147/

...lol, and that's supposed to mean something of significance to me.

The forum is littered with threads which are 'on topic' but are characterized by juvenile arguments, biased fanboyism and just plain inaccurate information accepted as "fact". At least the 'off topic' here is completely accurate and sincere.

Sky Germany: “Really excited by 4K”
http://advanced-television.com/2013/...excited-by-4k/

“Davey showed extensive footage of 4K test material, complete with a ‘Sky Ultra HD’ logo, and comprising travelogue-type material shot in London, of football and of Formula 1 practice sessions (courtesy of the Red Bull team).”

Well, at one time, the Dubstar was interested in commenting upon the advantages (or disadvantages) of Dolby Atmoshttps://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...os#post7331004

whereas, some people here might not be interested in sound, or in particular, Dolby Atmos and would prefer an open object-based audio spec, like from DTS and Fairlight…http://investor.dts.com/releasedetai...leaseID=754863

I don’t even mind if people take information first mentioned here, e.g. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ei#post7405004 and create dedicated threads about it a day later….https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=218366

Or, on the other hand, can’t, with other ‘all over the board’ thread discussion tidbits because those are too exclusive for the mainstream reporting websites or other people in the business to even know about, e.g. (from last January) –

Interesting aside about The Hobbit (not mentioned by Ted ^ and honestly, probably not known by him) is that worldwide, after the digital projector upgrades (which varied in expense), just about 3,800 auditoriums were capable of projecting the 3D HFR version….and only about 1,200 – 1500 actually were sent the DCPs in order to do so.

I guess that was to ‘protect’ the format....

In regards to the above ^ and 4K acquisition patent infringement news (or lack thereof), I’m advised that assuming procedural and jurisdictional issues are not in dispute, RED must respond to the Sony complaint within 21 days after having been served [Fed R Civ P 12(a)(1)(A)(i)], so I figure RED’s got about two more business weeks (tic-tok) to craft their response. I wonder if it will be posted on the RED forum for all to view?

And, so some people don’t get the false impression that all these patent infringement cases ultimately end up in insignificant settlements or that nobody gets their fanny spanked, i.e. ‘Dismissed with Prejudice’, I’ll refer ya’ll to this recent ruling…http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2416601,00.asp

Going back a couple pages to some originally posted links from prior to my taking off for NAB, specifically…
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...cc#post7391587
and
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ab#post7391680 < in particular, check out the next to the last slide from HPA with those spiffy looking x.v. Color and x.v. Colour logos.

Thought of the day for inquiring minds
The upcoming Ghostbusters “Mastered in 4K” 1080p Blu-ray is coming out soon. Do members think that spiffy looking x.v. Color logo will be on the back of the box? And given that, wouldn’t any reasonable consumer assume that the Blu-ray software in the box was encoded using this extended color gamut?

How dey do dat?

I think you’re being a little modest. To diehard Sunderland supporters, I think it must have felt like giving food to a starving man. Hang in there. You’ve still got work to do.
