Sir, I firmly believe that truly hard core enthusiasts wishing not to waste their financial investment, will either place these Apple displays on a desk in their office or else simply opt for bilateral prophylactic AKAs (above the knee amputations)….the choice between the two probably being determinable by their individual insurance coverage.

A few days ago I contributed to the 4K master movie list by adding Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean Thirteen as so…https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...en#post7466234
Subsequently, someone read that post and then e-mailed me the leaked audio link of Steven’s State of Cinema Address from the recent San Francisco International Film Festival during which he makes very candid remarks about studio economics (for instance the revelation that marketing costs are fixed and It doesn’t matter if the film costs 5 million or 50 million to make, regardless, it still costs about 70 million in marketing and distribution to do a wide enough release in order to recoup the costs, thusly major studios have found that their risk is lower and returns higher with big budget films) i.e. how and why which motion pictures are green lit, his opinion of Hollywood studio executives as well as his perspective of ‘cinema’ vs. ‘movies’. The first 10min. or so is a bit slow but, it kicks in after that and probably well worth a listen if you really desire some Director insight into the Hollywood movie making business – http://soundcloud.com/thompsononholl...er_share=b0375 If you don’t have the time or patience for the above ^, then at least some of the salient points are discussed in this piece with the musings about the studio structure on page 2…http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplayli...ostHeaderPanel but listening to the full audio clip is a gem if only for how animated the man is, even if one does not agree with all he preaches. On a side note, even as a techie he's marched to the beat of a different drummer because for instance, I believe that his Che was the very first feature-length motion picture to use Red One digital cameras, which were the initial incarnation of Red’s current stable. |

The sci-fi compilation all of which has got some movie critics thinking “C’mon, Hollywood. You’re (slightly) better than this” http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/fea...-this-year.php “Better” or not, said movie critic ^ apparently doesn’t understand or accept the significance of what makes money in the movie business. |

![]() Yes, Ghostbusters received a new 4K scan but your query is only partially relevant to discerning minds. Something else which would be good for home theater enthusiasts to know (especially those who hold the opinion that the first Blu-ray edition was not representative of the color, contrast and brightness of the original release prints which they remember) is whether the original negative was used as the source of the new 4K scan…rather than the ‘archival’ interpositive, as was the case with the last Blu-ray version. I’m assuming that readers here are fully aware of what an interpositive is but if not then scroll down to the flow chart - http://motion.kodak.com/motion/uploa...l_Workflow.pdf For, if it be the former (i.e. the original negative) then that would entail a brand new color grading. And if that’s the case, you should be asking yourself (if you’re an avid fan of the film and believe in cinematic historical accuracy to home media)….will this brand new color grading now match what was the look of the original theatrical presentation in terms of color, brightness and contrast? Screenshot comparisons of the old Blu-ray vs. the upcoming Blu-ray should be very interesting. |

The 4K TV consumer electronics *gravy train* might not last nearly as long as some C.E. executives had hoped for, if these price offerings spread to other countries….http://www.itproportal.com/2013/05/0...#ixzz2S2OhM7Ir

And oh boy if the original negative was used. I can't wait to see the new complaints about the color and how everyone prefers the first release version better. Ha. Any differences in color and contrast on blurays and people go crazy. I guess i can't point the finger since i complained about Raiders new golden look. I really preferred the natural color look. Anyway, this is really good news for me. |

Marc Webb, he does twitter posts almost daily (using his real name) mostly about the production. On the other hand, Steven (Soderbergh) < true cinephiles should try to make time to listen to his keynote posted above, is currently writing a novella using an anonymous handle here…https://twitter.com/*****uation
- where you see the * marks above ^ type in the word for a female dog and it should get you to his twitter feed. |

Sap, as a F/U to your post on the last page, there is some news. Regarding the incompatibility comments by Samsung's senior director of sales and marketing in Europe, Samsung released this statement:
“Samsung would like to clarify that consumers who purchase a Samsung UHD TV will enjoy the picture quality benefits of UHD now and even after the standards are finalized. The changes required to support the new standards will be implemented through our Evolution Kit, which will be available to owners of our UHD TVs. Samsung is committed to providing the best TV viewing experience to our customers and the Evolution Kit is our simple solution for them to get the latest technologies and features.” P.S. btw, https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...218262&page=14 < is rockin ![]() ![]() |

In case some readers here are uncertain as to my position as to the accuracy of screenshots (i.e. frame grabs), I fairly recently posted my opinion (through a quoted reference) here….https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ot#post7340606
So, in essence, the devil is in the details. Exactly how the screenshots are created is of critical importance. A few years ago, the site administrator posted specifically how Blu-ray.com creates their screenshots for this forum and I think that served as an excellent example to others as to the significance of stating one’s materials and methods in this regard. In fact, this kind of method documentation is mandatory in the write-up of any scientific paper before one even describes the results with graphs, pics, whatever. All I would add is I don’t think that sample jpeg screenshots are very good as an advanced utility for professionals in trying to illustrate dynamic range with 4K acquisition devices (even if one posts 4K jpeg’s) as the images can show false positive overexposure and it is much more accurate to show a 16 bit 4K DPX frame grab as a sample for evaluation of something like that when trying to illustrate such when in communication with others online. But this is not of particular importance to the deliverable (Blu-ray media) usually discussed on the software forums. |
