You're talking about the replacement of every satellite/cable/OTA box on the market. It's not like the digital broadcast switchover from NTSC to ATSC which was actually mandated by the government and had to be done. |

Thats why HEVC based streaming supported in new set top boxes will probably obsolete traditional broadcasts. Looking forward to IPTV! ![]() |

but for the 65 incher?….(if yes, then…(assuming excellent compression) I would say that based upon scientific testing with over 50 observers you most likely underestimated your viewing distance or didn’t see enough variety of sample material to make a comprehensive analysis….given 20/20 visual acuity. |

Believe me, I wanted the 4K to look better. But it didn't. Long before this demo, when I stopped by the Sony Showroom to check out the 84" 4K set, I wasn't impressed either. It didn't look bad, but it "felt" the same as my HX929. I was expecting the kind of improvement in overall picture quality akin to seeing a Kuro for the first time. Didn't happen. Maybe next year. |

![]() Yes, it met your listed criteria. Specifically, I’m referring to the “scientific testing” involving even a smaller-sized display (56”), of arguably lesser quality, where observers could differentiate 4K from HD source at 3½ ft. away (not only 2 ft.)…briefly summarized at ~ the 38’08” mark of the YouTube clip linked to below. Like I said, assuming excellent compression, your personal observation doesn’t fit with the bell-shaped curve in the testing involving over 50 other ‘blinded’ observers. If I were compelled to guess as to the reason for this discrepancy (assuming you do have normal visual acuity), then the ‘problem’ is/was the compression of the 4K sample content being exhibited, rather than any inherent deficiency of the 4K 65” Sony display itself. |

A man wrote a letter to a small hotel in a Midwest town he planned to visit on his vacation. He wrote: “I would very much like to bring my dog with me. He is well-groomed and very well behaved. Would you be willing to permit me to keep him in my room with me at night?" An immediate reply came from the hotel owner, who wrote: SIR: "I've been operating this hotel for many years. In all that time, I've never had a dog steal towels, bedclothes, silverware or pictures off the walls. I've never had to evict a dog in the middle of the night for being drunk and disorderly. And I've never had a dog run out on a hotel bill. Yes, indeed, your dog is welcome at my hotel. And, if your dog is willing to vouch for you, you're welcome to stay here, too." |

Not with the current internet infrastructure in the U.S. Millions of people streaming 4K movies @ the same time will be a massive traffic jam like never before

The only reason the infrastructure isn't there is because there's no demand for it yet. Most of the major ISP's have stated they're perfectly capable of(and planning on) increasing speeds as needed, but they plan to roll it out incrementally as the streaming/demand increases. There'd be no traffic jam, that's just something everybody assumes. There'll be no sudden, enormous leap in streaming leaving us w/o enough bandwidth.
