Thanks Steed and Tob as it means much to us American born soccer players/followers and I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before The Three Lions go through too. I also feel especially happy for our coach (and fellow SoCal resident), Jürgen Klinsmann who took quite a bit of constant criticism over the months from one red-haired American soccer ‘pundit’ on ESPN who seemed oblivious to Jürgen’s previous success with the German National team….not to mention, not possessing nearly as much skill as Jürgen did during his playing days.

Anyway, since this is an international forum, let us not forget other national teams that qualified yesterday for Brazil 2014 - http://www.sfgate.com/sports/article...14-4804056.php

For as a fan of all aspects of the beautiful game, I hope there is similar robust Argentinean support for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil as there was back in 2010…..

As long as there aren't any bloody vuvuzelas at Rio next year, I'll enjoy it 100% more than South Africa 2010. Having a ball that doesn't fly about like a goddamned beach ball would help, too.

it looks like the English are going to the world cup but us irish had a poor campaign so we have to wait to see who is our new manager and try to qualify for the euros.

Yeah, but their presence sure provided me with a YouTube vehicle to tease PeterTHX with, since he is not exactly a big fan of soccer.

So, given that you are a big fan of the Premier League , do you adopt England as your ‘2nd team’ to root for during the World Cup, or are you more of a neutral observer standing on the sidelines and just hoping for good matches and that the best team wins?

Heads-up to both 4K advocates and skeptics (Sap?) because this SMPTE session ( https://www.smpte.org/news-events/ne...bc2013-preview) convened by Hans at IBC 2013 consists of not only a *brain trust* of UHD people, but also some individuals who tell it like it is and don’t kowtow to special commercial interests. (http://www.ibc.org/page.cfm/Action=V...VisitorID=2915 )

For example, I can tell you that from listening to Hans at the last HPA retreat which I attended ( https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...pa#post8094127 ) that he can be very candid in expressing his thoughts about the strengths, as well as the weaknesses, of 1st generation 4K. We need panels of this individual quality to serve as leadership groups to drive the progression of basic 4K to the next *level* ( see the bottom half of this spiel….https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...te#post7325076 )

Hopefully, representatives from the various news outlets will cover this session with articles and such so, keep an eye out for any reporting of this particular session. At the very least, it should offer some new 4K enthusiasts an accurate summary/analysis of the highlights of the past year(s) Beyond HD revolution.

It just doesn’t get much better than this group of folks.

I hope those are ironic tears because I'd never support the Irish in lieu of England. Italy, yes, because my Grandmother was from the old country.
