![]() Yeah, I got really annoyed by people kvetching that this game's not "hard" - not really the point (for this non-gamer). Hell, you want a challenge? Play in the mode where there are no notes, and sing at the same time! Another fun link about Shea: http://www.maccafan.net/Gallery/SheaStadium/Shea.htm "So it was that, amid some secrecy, the Beatles came to CTS Studios in central London on 5 January 1966, to "sweeten" the soundtrack, by whatever means necessary, of their in-production television film The Beatles At Shea Stadium. The session began with Paul only, overdubbing new bass tracks onto Dizzy Miss Lizzy, Can't Buy Me Love, Baby's In Black and I'm Down. Onto this latter song John also overdubbed a new organ track. More drastic repair work was then effected by the group as a whole, with entirely new recordings completed for two songs: I Feel Fine (done at George Martin's specific request) and Help! The Beatles strove to re-create a live-concert sound with these recordings rather than their more typical EMI studio feel, and they also had to match carefully their singing and playing with the on-screen images, hence the use of CTS, the premier audio-to-film dubbing studio in London. (CTS is an abbreviation for Cine Tele Sound.) " (it's on the internet, so might just be true ![]() The Shea gig used their 100W VOX amps, mic'd into the PA. Every time I dream of being able to see the Beatles (or, for that matter, to have been at Woodstock), I shudder to think at the horrifying quality of production sound back then. Thank Mr. Townshend for bugging the Marshall corporation to invent the concert stack, allowing for not only one of the finer moments in cinema history ("It goes up to 11"), but for subsequent generations of outdoor concert goers to go deaf in unison, even without 56,000 screaming adolescent girls... |

Yeah, Rock Band doesn't usually fall into that trap. Guitar Hero does it constantly. Through the Fire and Flames is a good example.
I'm only cherry picking the songs, all the ones I really want haven't been announced yet like Hey Jude Penny Lane or Yesterday |

Cliff welcome to the site, loved the post that PM quoted earlier in the thread.
my 2 cents on some of the stuff 1) yes the downfall of AVS hit its stride during the format war, but it started way before that. I know that it might be "elitist" (Isn't that what people use when they don't have a real reason to counter the point that is made) but I think the issue started when they decided they wanted to be #1 and added the HTIB forum, gaming and stuff like that. When I joined in 2001 most of the people where techno geeks that loved to tweek and tried to get the most out of their gear and room. But then it started having more and more people that did not care and just wanted to know an easy answer of "what to buy" this made them easy sheep (don't know anything but an "insider" like Amir said so, so must be true). 2)I disagree that it is just the HDM forums. Even though when I left (2007) the high end projector forum was still mostly good and one of the best forums there, there is a lot of stupidity and BS. Let's face it this particular discussion because of screenshots, and I remember even before the format war started getting in fights with morons that looked through screen shots (pictures taken of the screen) to decide what projector to buy. They could not understand the fundamental principle that when you have two (or more) heavily compressed pictures taken using different cameras by different people of different projectors, showing different movies on different screens in different HTs under different lighting conditions there is very little to compare and impossible to make an informed decision on what projector has a better image. The last thing (if it can be added to the list) that you are comparing is the projectors. 3) I agree with most, spears was always an OK guy, and I don't really remember him pushing VC-1. Icemage maybe you are thinking of Ben W.? now that was an other MS douche that loved blowing smoke up the idiots a$$. The funny thing was that if you go back to 2004 he was AVC on DVD was the perfect thing for HD until MS hired him and "boom" it became VC-1 with 30GB and 25GB too little (even though by some magic reason 15GB was also enough when a combo was released early on) and 50 way too much. |

Even today, some of these same people then come here, to this very thread, and decry those that use screencaps to make such and such a point, while still citing Tier threads, or codec disparities (without regard to source, or settings, etc). After all, it's almost all conjecture once we get the consumer product, and even then it's greatly dependent upon the workflow of the technicians involved. Can it honestly be said that there were no "Blu" fanatics that went out of their way to attack any and all things said regarding VC1? It's all crap, from every side, and while AVS certainly has seen a great decline, let's not lose one key element of Cliff's initiatial post - when even Blu-Ray.com makes AVS look good, a forum where we've seen (mostly in the general threads) some pretty egregious prosletising and pettyness by a vocal minority. Crap. I got sucked in again. Meh. Last edited by sharkshark; 11-17-2009 at 02:46 PM. Reason: Forgot a dash, accused of being a shill for doing so. |

I never understand why people also use slam bang stuff as their criteria for sound greatness
My demo to show what HD audio can do is the opening scenes in Master and Commander, and the prison camp in Children of Men. The contrasts of going from quiet and environmental stuff (creaks, little things that put you in the environment) to boom goes across the dynamic range (particuarly the latter). The fidelity is incredible and I'll hold those up as the prime examples of lossless any day above most anything else. In compression its all those little things that get tossed away first, and you never miss them till you know they're supposed to be there. |

Speaking of offering to Blu-ray I just received the December issue of “Home Theater Magazine” and it says on the front cover that it contains a Blu-ray Special. Have not had a chance to read any of the articles but it does appear to be a very interesting issue. Kudos to you and HTM for helping to educate and inform about the merits of Blu-ray.
