But, you also have those same type of lobbyists (or environmental extremists) on the other side who haven't let California build more power plants to support the growing population and energy needs. These people seemingly want to control our lives. Conservation and being more efficient makes sense, of course, however it will only go so far.
The amount of money that environmentalists have is pithy in comparison to the utilities industry. You'll find a lot MORE of that sort of problem comes from the rich and affluent who declare "not in my backyard". regardless of which side of the environmental fence they're on.

Regarding AVS, and what I view over there... I think the display calibration is the best forum at that site as there are some outstanding, reputable calibrators posting. Most of the conversations are rational and informative. It's really a good example of how AVS should be across the board. The display forums can be useful too, although that's when it begins to take somwhat of a dive....however, there are some knowledgeable people in some of those threads. I've learned a few things about my display, as a result. Yes, the BD software threads are more or less for humor as they are a complete joke IMO.

A question that just popped into my head this morning for some reason.... is the learning curve over with Blu-ray? Are the tranfers as good as they can be now or is there room for improvement similar to how it went with dvd?

+1

At the risk of scraping along the politics line, I do kind of scratch my head and wonder when I hear outrage regarding some left-leaning 'agenda,' powered by the forces of WWF, Greenpeace, PETA, etc. The idea that a smattering of interested non-profits such as these wield as much, if not more, influence than their industrial counterparts in energy, pharma, telco, and agri-farm, etc. is quite baffling to me.

The problem I have with many of the spokespeople for environmental groups, is that they're hippocrytes. Take Al Gore, he screams about killing the environment, yet he jets around the world in a private jet that harms the environment. Why doesn't he fly commercial? Also, Gore has made nearly $100 million dollars off of global warming making dire predictions that will not come to pass (the oceans rising 20 feet, etc.)...I highly doubt his sincerity and when the data started to go against him, the movement was changed to "climate change."

I do highly respect Ed Begly Jr. though. He walks the walk and talks the talk. His carbon footprint is very small using solar, riding his bike, and cooking on an outdoor wood-burning stove. He should be commended.

If you want a great read, take a look at this: http://www.michaelcrichton.net/speec...talfuture.html

Sorry to hijack the thread Penton...this will be my last post on the subject

IMO, there is always room for improvement with technology progressing and also a danger in taking a remedial step backwards in media delivery, like kpkelley asking in post #11400

Has Sony changed their policy in regards to subtitles because of the poll or has no action been taken?

Not that it is relevant, but Fight Club had 28 subtitle tracks and their subtitles appeared entirely within the image.
ie. I'm still pushing for the image to be as close to the original theatrical presentation as technology allows.

To the best of my knowledge, there was indeed a policy change (i.e. all subtitles in the active picture all the time) as reflected in the final poll results.

I haven’t been following that subject so, I’m uncertain as to exactly when the new policy was to become effective and (due to a natural encoding/authoring lag time), when consumers would actually start to see new Blu-ray product reflecting that change.

Don’t quote me, but off the top of my head, I would say Dec. or Jan.
Give me some time to look into the situation, as I’m working double-time this week so that I don’t have to come into the office at all, next week (Thanksgiving).

Doctorossi, if you’re still living and/or working in the New York area, and to anyone else in that area of the country, you’ve only got two days left (tonight and tomorrow night) to catch the restoration of the Red Shoes, click on Film Forum……….

There’s a rather nice audio interview with Thelma S. on the above ^ link.

And Doctor, I finally got the opportunity to watch the Chelsea vs. Man. U. match from last? weekend as I’m way behind in my football viewing and had recorded the broadcast on my DVR. Very entertaining soccer! Did you catch it?

There was some footage showing a guy in the stands brushing his teeth with a toothbrush.......now, I think I’ve seen just about everything imaginable happen during a Premier League match….
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBtk67lcpyw

The camera never went back later to see if the guy flossed.

Do you have any information on why Bright Star was canceled, and if it will be released on Blu-ray at a later date?

Thanks.

Ed Begley Jr. is a great guy from what I can tell, and we had him booked for a Battlestar Galactica event. He'd broken his foot and was on a lot of pain meds, and his wife called us to inform that he won't be coming because she found him on the driveway trying to figure out how to drive with the other foot so he could come and have a good time with the rest of the cast. She put her foot down wisely forbade him to go, because in his high level of pain and heavy medication, I don't think it was a good idea for him to be wandering around a few thousand people anyway . That's dedication! I do hope i run into him at some point in the future to add him to my DVD.

Mr. Crichton is not a reliable source. He's a graduate of medical school, he is not a climatologist, geologist, hydrologist, meterologist or any other *gist that would be qualified to render an opinion. Unlike the previous global cooling hypothesis and such that he and others go for, there is worldwide scientific consensus about man made/accelerated global warming in the scientific community, a few nutters, and energy company shills aside.

So just like you shouldn't trust Xylon or eric.exe to judge your PQ, don't ask a science fiction author to do your climate research for you His books are very entertaining but chock full of bad, misrepresented and made up science (his take on chaos theory being just one of the disasters that's more public because of JP)

http://www.realclimate.org/index.php...-of-confusion/

He does get nanotech either

Sorry, I don’t know anything about it and the Director that handles that stuff is out of the office until Nov. 24 and like I said, I'll be out that week, myself.
