Dude, it was in Santa Monica.
I make a point to go there as often as possible, just for the babes (tourists and locals).

Seriously, it’s always important to support the independents and as in the past and with this year, many of the same people that were nominated there will also be in attendance at the Kodak this evening. So, yes.

Below is what I posted this morning on the other forum as I was alerted by a fellow member here that the *debate* had progressed from bashing Dracula and its producers to the bashing of insiders (by Mr. Mack) regarding The Fifth Element…………………..

I never defended TFE “vociferously” as Mr. Mack alleges above nor did I say……. “Nothing is wrong with the transfer, that's how the film looks” - as Mr. Mack states in another post here.
In fact to the converse, I encouraged a redo of TFE…………..
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...7&postcount=37

Please also refer to page1 of that old thread ^ where Mr. Mack is accusing SPE that “they were ALWAYS going to do a double dip!” which is likewise a false accusation as there was never any pre-meditated ulterior financial motive.

For the record, the post supervisor for that particular title (TFE) assumed the master for that title was superb. That was an oversight in the quality control process, plain and simple during the early days of the format.
Might I add that since then, this same post supervisor has probably done more for the home theater enthusiast than any individual I can recall, offhand. Completely unrelated to The Fifth Element issue, he got flat panels into the HD suites after having noticed that grain/noise problems were appearing on consumer LCD screens which were not visible on the pro HD CRT screens due to the nature of the CRT raster lines softening some high-frequency detail and hiding those flaws.

He also wrote an industry report to highlight this issue and he encouraged other studios and post houses to do the same.

LOL!

Yeah, that lot always have something new to go after Blu about. Fortunately, we can now simply ignore these pathetic fools.

Sorry, I missed your question.

I don’t follow Apple closely at all so you may want to inquire with our other insiders on this forum.
I can tell you though, since you mentioned FCP (Final Cut Pro) in your initial posting, that ever since Apple informed the public it would not be an official presence at the upcoming NAB trade show, rumors have been running rampant throughout the industry that Apple has been making arrangements to sell its Final Cut Studio software to an outside entity.

I don’t know if the above rumor is or isn’t of some merit.

Now, it’s time for me to get ready for da show.
If any folks out there are into Oscar betting and such, I hope you all win your office pools.

Plus, his former company’s top dog, Bill Gates *conceded* the format war publicly before CES by ignoring the red format altogether --like it never existed in the first place.

I get a kick out of these *film aficionados* and *home theater enthusiasts* that avidly follow such mundane things as replication lines. Firstly, to further the advancement of an anti-Blu-ray agenda, they all purposely assumed that technology and financial investment is static and secondly – any valuable cutting edge information is confidential, anyway.

They can always start a new doomsday scenario right now for the Blu-ray format.
As somebody stated above, the dominos all fell much quicker than everyone thought and the red house came falling down abruptly. This will result is a greater number of people eventually desiring to buy Blu-ray players (than previously expected).
Can the carriers (Fed-Ex, etc.) actually be able to handle the excess load of these upcoming shipments?

I suggest now that those people who actually like tracking that sort of information -rather than watching movies at home, start tracking airline schedules, capacity cargo holds, etc. to determine if we are not setting up future Blu-ray player owners for a doomsday scenario regarding the delivery of new units on time! ! ! !
You are right as always. I get tired of the quasi insiders on the other boards and their ignorant following. How they can be so loyal while being spoon fed pure air elsewhere, while they could come over to here and have meat and potatoes and have there fill.

I think their just overly sore that Blu Drank their milkshake...

Penton, do you believe that any FCP sale would likely also includ DVD STudio Pro?

I'd love to have Spruce back on PC, so much better from an end-user perspective than Scenarist

If you were to speculate, do you see this as a sign of Apple getting out of the post buis alltogether, not as a platform but as a company?

In regards to our previous discussion regarding fourth and fifth generation optical technologies that could someday surpass Blu-ray (before downloading of high definition movies ever becomes mainstream), I hope that the recent Y. Kawata referral (from Shizuoka University) came in handy.

I see that the Director of your lab/program was recently quoted in an online article about Blu-ray, the past high-def optical disc war, etc. Send her a smile from me.

Just a quickie, Wicky – as I’ve got to run.
I just don’t know how to interpret Apple’s seemingly lack of interest in continuing development related to FCP.

In other words, if this signals their desire to move away from the video editing/post production business, your guess is as good as mine………or better.

Guys, I’ve dusted off the ole shoes, pulled the penguin suit out of the closet and I’ve been pampered like a peacock today.

It’s now sunny and I hope it stays that way. If I don’t drop in for the next couple days, consider a major after party hangover.

Also, and yes, I will be attending with my wife so I shall be on the best behavior...........possible.

Enjoy, Penton!

I shall be using the description you just gave (peacock in a penguin suit?) to zero in on you during the telecast.

Should be quite easy, actually.

Lots of people from my side of the pond very happy for Marion. She was gorgeous and really deserved her prize.

If she's smart to pick the right projects, her Hollywood career could take off. The next Michael Mann movie should be big.

She was my one "sure thing" pick for the evening (yes, I know I'm in the minority). It's very rare when people start talking in March about a performance that is "guaranteed" to win the Oscar. It may not have had a lot of buzz, but I think every voter compared everyone throughout the entire year to her trying to knock her off and they just fell short.

If that is in fact true that would be weird.. Hell, just a few weeks ago they sunk a shitload of money into hosting a free FCP seminar geared towards editors in the guild who use Avid @ the Fox lot and they gave out free copies to every attendee. They had a big cocktail party and all that to end it too.
