Blitz,
Let’s be honest here, you really went to that part of town to get a slice at Joe’s Pizza.

Seriously, I’m glad you liked it.
If you missed the first event (because it got sold out very early)

And you’ve got the time and inclination, this should also be grand –

P.S.
b.t.w. –Wicky,
Buzz Aldrin (the astronaut and moon walker ) showed up for the first Academy event on 4/25.

I wish I wish I wish I could have seen that

I'd love to meet Mr. Aldrin, I often think I was born 20 years too late, I would have given anythin to experience the height of the space race, and I'm dying to see that restored footage

And that HD footage from Kaguya in all its glory of the moon. I downloaded the web feed and that alone brought some tears

Do you know if there is anywhere to see 70mm presentations of LoA or 2001 on the east coast? Maybe something in NYC?

Sorry, that’s not my dept. but, I like Esox’s speculation as to further internet drama.
It provides good fodder for the remaining red ant hold-outs on those internet
fringe forums.

It's depressing. Toronto used to have several AMAZING 70mm theaters. But, "Darth" Drabinski was here to invent the megaplex and destroy these wonderful theaters for us and everyone.

Well, I guess IMAX compensates for our sin, somewhat.

Penton,

Sort of a weird question, but do you know why First Blood is being re-released into the theaters?

I'm psyched about seeing it (never did in the theater), but I haven't figured out why it's back out?

A new transfer of the restoration negative (I assume that the original negative is not usable anymore as the Eastmancolor stock was already near its end of life when Robert Harris worked with it) I can understand but a complete new restoration sounds dubious to me.
The restoration from the 80s used analogue means only, basically copying one film element to another. That gets you so far. With todays digital tools you can do more. If the original negative can be scanned you use the ultimate source for restoration. And you can repair damage that could not be repaired in the 80s (such as the negative cracks in some desert shots from the hot sun). The restored 4K master projected digitally on a future 4K projector (not the current low contrast Sony models) with high contrast will show LOA as we have never seen it before.
