Esp. since restoration has increasingly been shifting from a lab process to digital solutions. And what they (Digital Images) do, was last done on the Blu-ray title, Monty Python's Life of Brian if you would like to examine a real-world example of this mystical process…………..unless Mr. Harris can answer Rob Tomlin’s post # 3706 with a more current example available on Blu-ray now. |

I'm more worried about the suits at the top, which as you know are the people behind OTHER DNR initiatives to give Joe Sixpack "what he wants". If they have these letters, they can wave them in faces. Trying to head things off at the pass more than anything Peter Staddon put a lot of great people in a Fox during his time there, and Steve Feldstein has certainly continued his work |

Ok I am going to probably take alot of h*ll for this, but I think Patton looks beautiful and has never looked better. My opinion is that I hope Fox continues to do what they are doing. I applaud the efforts on Longest Day, Sand Pebbles and Patton from Fox. These are gorgeous transfers and I am very happy they were able to make them look like they do, and I hope future classics from Fox are done exactly the same way! I understand the grain issue very well, but personally after viewing these movies, which look brand new, I find I prefer exactly what was released!!! I do not however agree with other types of DNR such as edge enhancement, ect.
They have also presented beautifully remastered soundtracks in DTS MA showing how good the sound department at Fox actually was at the time. Listening to these movies in lossless sound is a very big thrill! Last edited by Robert Siegel; 06-07-2008 at 04:12 PM. |

and "The Other People" to delay decisions to release other catalog titles. We may just end up not getting anything. Those "Letters" can work both ways. Some people just don't feel the need to post on internet forums to counter attact. Thanks for the address. I liked "Patton" and wrote a letter thanking them for the prestine release of an old classic in keeping with technological advances of 2008. At least there will be one letter to wave back in their faces from an under thirty fan. |

This case reminds me of the SD DVD, North by Northwest, at the time it was restored/released, there was some talk about it to this end, back then. In either case these movies stand on their own, not the restore/transfer process. It's like the film does not look real for some reason. This is only IMHO, and this most likely was not a good way to describe how these films looked to me watching them, as I truely like them both. Thanks.

I watch the best soccer players in the world perform in the best league in the world on SD routinely, because that’s all I can get. There are always going to be some anomalous cases out there. With the internet, sometimes things go beyond genuine feelings about a topic to sanctimonious soap-boxing.........mhafner aside, as he had this battle with the colorists back in the day. |

Do you want me to be more specific for the folks? He’s a non-factor at this time anyway and only of interest for a historical perspective. What makes you think that the “suits at the top” at Fox Studios are predisposed to embracing policies and procedures involving excessive post processing of any type? There are no “suits at the 'very' top” at Fox that are so inclined. |

With non-artist people running things many places (like the record industry was ruined), I have to run on the premise that the focus group is more powerful than the enthusiast., and be pleasantly suprised when I'm wrong So that's also why I said that people need to write letters to tell them what they're doing RIGHT as well as wrong. Cheer the good, and build up a record of consumer satisfaction so if an unfriendly exec comes in somewhere, it's building more firewalls between us and smoothie city. I'm less worried these days about the grainless suit and his acolytes with an agenda, than clueless focus-followers thinking they're giving the customer what they want Either way, I'd like to publically thank Penton for the efforts he's made on our behalf to try to find out what went on, and for his continuing efforts even post war to keep us all in the loop on a virtually daily basis. penton -
please pass along to paidgeek (if he's still around) a thanks to sony for Baron Munchausen. i suspect it was not a stellar seller, but a fine blu release for a movie i'd wager was not in the best of shape. thoroughly enjoyed this on blu, loved the artwork for the sleeve, but the real gem is the misadventures making-of. i really wish ALL movies had this kind of special feature - found the 1+ hour of it perhaps more engrossing than the movie itself ![]() i generally don't care for commentaries during the feature itself; but this type of special feature is the best in my book. loved the brutal honesty of the producers and gilliam himself, including robin williams et al. once comment -- please ask the studios to enable the MENU function to bypass the commercials. if the commercials have to be there, at least let us skip them to the main menu instead of having to fwd through all of them (or chapter skip). this reminds me of the nonsense disney used to pull. |
