I just captured scenes from both, and flipping them back and forth, besides the fact that the trailer is scanned from a different, more contrasty element and it's blown up slightly less on the screen and has a diferent Scope matting of the Super 35, basically the main diference to me is that the movie when compared directly to the trailer looks like the image is a little out of focus. If I turn the sharpness up I can make it look similar in sharpness to the trailer or even sharper than the trailer. It's almost as if someone is expecting that the viewer will have the sharpness setting up on his set. Vivid. While if you see it "flat" it looks smooth and very clean.

Still, the movie as is, seen flat on a display that is flat up to the 1080 limit, the BD looks twice as good as the average theatrical presentation.

Hey PM

It took 2 - 3 years before we saw our first tv show on dvd how long do you think we'll have to wait to see studio wide support for tv shows?

Uh, guys, this was very deliberate on the part of the artist and producer, etc.
They liked the effect and deliberately turned the knob to 11.

(Why does this remind me of some other recent discussions here...)

One thing you have to remember is that Fox taking a chance with X-Files created the entire category. It's a very different market than it was back in 1999

You're probably looking at at least 2010 before every new show is hitting Blu and more than a trickle of catalog titles are coming out

2010 makes sense. I blind bought Damages and Mad Men to show my support (and I was pleasantly surprised to see how good the shows were).

I tried watching the Perepolis bd with the original french language track and english subtitles. Problem is, the movie is black and white and the subtitles are in white.

I find that a dub track can ruin and even change the tone of a film. Yet, i found it difficult and annoying trying to read the white subtitles on a white background. It got so distracting trying to read white on white, that i had to change to the english track. In this world of interactive pip and bd live, it doesn't seem like a stretch to be able to control the color of subtitles. I personally would be happy with always having yellow subtitles, but for some reason studios seem to love white.
Sorry for the delayed response. Somehow I missed your query.

We can change subtitle color with font based subs, but this does not work well on all players so we are only experimenting with it. I will pass along the fact that this did not work well on Persepolis.

It’s off to France for me and my better half to hopefully watch an Aussie (former mountain biker turned roadie) win Le Tour.
then to………. Where Eagles Dare……….the Austrian Alps.

I hope the mods/insiders here have a pleasant and productive meeting in San Diego and Ice……….The Del is zee best!

Have a nice vacation, Penton. Hopefully the West/Central European weather improves for you - it's been very variable for all of July.

And I paid $100 for it ON SALE. So I don't think the price of the BD TV seasons are too high at all.

Unless its an HBO series, TV series are now relatively affordable.

Im getting sick thinking about what Band of Brothers will cost for bluray.

I wish they released the old TV shows at a premium price then lower it when the user base increases. I'd be willing to pay that premium.

Any chance that those of us that have already purchased (and thoroughly enjoyed) '20 Million Miles to Earth' will get a rebate offer on the upcoming 'Ray Harryhausen Giftset'?

Default "Delivering 8K VFX Shots for The Dark Knight"

Hey, I'm surprised nobody posted this yet. With regard to shooting a feature film in IMAX, here's an overview of how just the action sequences in The Dark Knight impacted the VFX workflow, etc.

A sample from the article:

Quote:
“We tracked the Batpod into live-action plates filmed in Chicago, but in some cases we needed a digital road for new camera moves,” Franklin says. “The only way was to photograph the road in excruciating detail. We recreated a quarter mile of LaSalle Street and 250 yards of Lower Wacker Drive to one-centimeter resolution.

Why doesn't the Harryhausen Gift Set comprise the 3 new titles (substituting Sinbad for 20 M Miles)?

Your suggestion makes too much sense that is why. Perhaps they wish to "shaft" consumers like me that purchased 20 Million Miles to Earth already.

seeing alot of talk/flak about DNR and some BD titles.

But do guys realise that rise of the silver surfer had DNR applied to the BR encode. still a very sharp/detailed transfer so it can be done correctly.

Is it four titles, including Sinbad and 20M?
