I think that there are always going to be disagreements online, the key is just to let it go and not allow it to fester. Most people here on our forum have good intentions and we all put our foot in our mouth once in awhile. Nobody is perfect.

There is no need for anyone here to get in a tizzy over exactly how/when the other format will pass from being a dead format to an ancient format/religion or who said what/when in that regard. It’s all good.

I’ve always liked this forum and the members here because other than minor disagreements, I think that people here actually watch movies in high-def rather than debating their merits all day and all night long on some other forums.

That being said, I hope that mystik reconsiders her position or else some of us may end up having to howl like a dog to entice her to publicly post her photo-shoot.

The mods can clean up this diversion and move it to an off-site thread, at their leisure, if so inclined. It makes no difference to me.

Highly doubtful.
Different business models would have to evolve first.

I know here in Austin, TX Time Warner cable has had a few releases same day as in the theater, might just be a test bed.

Didn't HDNet try this with a couple of things?

I believe Steven Soderbergh's Bubble was the first feature to attempt such a feat. It was released in theatres, on DVD and on Pay-Per-View (I think that was the 3rd medium) at the same time.

Basically.... the only time I think it'd ever really work from a major studio would be a re-release... Star Wars-esque.... but there's very little material that popular that could drive the theater sales.

Penton with what looks like a substantial number of retailers/renters of electronics and movies dropping HD-DVD in favour of BD what do you think is a realistic timeframe for the decision makers at both Paramount and Universal to say "enough is enough, we are goind Blu"?

While I'm not Penton, this question is pretty commonly asked.

It's probably not a question he can easily respond to... from everything we've heard though, Paramount and Universal have already likely said "enough" internally, at least. "It's just a matter of time" is the closest date you'll get at this point. But I suspect industry wide you'd be hard pressed to find a company that matters that is still exclusively supporting HD DVD by the end of Q2 or a brick n mortar retailer that even has HD DVD stuff.

Just to be clear I am not asking for a date and time Just a realistic timeframe. Are we looking summer or Christmas or as late as 2009.

Default Walmart part of the massacre?

Walmart has removed the A3 from their website So now the only HD DVD player they offer online is the venturer (which is listed as clearance for $167). If you find an old link to the A3, it can be found but it seems to be only in stores (where numerous people report it as being on the clearance shelf).

Given walmart's attitude of answering to no one, I would expect a public announcement from them about discontinuing HD DVD right after they announce they are discontinuing Herbal Essence Shampoo.

So, I am asking the hair dresser extraordinaire if any of your clients have mentioned anything regarding bentonville beast while they have been in the chair.

April 1st.

The Press release will simply be "We were fools, the joke was on us."

Penton,

Last year we actually know that Paramount pressed/printed/packaged copies of "blades of glory" on Blu Ray. Did they really destroy those? Did they press any "transformers"? I was just wondering "if" Paramount were to switch soon, how long would it take to get some fresh material? Not previously released.

Just theorhetically.......

Who am I to argue with that?
I wouldn't read too much into that comment from Michael Bay, considering he does have several titles on Blu-ray now (The Rock, The Island, Pearl Harbor).

I'm going to guess the next announcement is Wal-mart. They've started removing some HD DVD players and moving others into clearance.
