Those HTF mods are so pompous and such red ants. I can't believe how one of the mods over there talked about how he signed the HD DUD Warner petition. I think the mods at HTF are worse than AVS mods in many ways.

I would bet on a Walmart or CC BD exclusive announcement...

Hmmm...

I'm going to guess some sort of trade-up program is going to be announced...

Kill Bill is Disney, but Weinstein going blu would be wonderful. I believe Weinstein refused to comment on their hi-def stance last year.

I really hope it's a studio. Penton said, not major, but at least I expect minor american studio.

Dear Penton-Man,
Can you please tell me some super secret insider info? Pretty please with a cherry on top.

When Ken Graffeo read the Netflix news, did he throw up cheerios in his own mouth, or just the usual orange juice?

I'm not sure if this is what you are referring to, but I know that a very large local reatiler in my area was told to take returns on all HD-DUD players sold and return them to said company that shall remain nameless but starts with a "T" and ends in "oshiba". That's big.

I doubt there are any non-alchoholic beverages in the offices of the HD DVD offices these days. I'm thinking some rot like stalingrad vodka, or Old Mr. Boston Whiskey. Something that comes in a plasic bottle so that it doesn't smash when they throw it against the wall.

I meant a larger, general trade-up program in the US announced by the BDA, supported by the manufacturer's behind it, exchanging SA players + a small fee for some (not all) Toshiba HD-DVD players (also, only one player per customer).

This would boost BD players out there, awareness, and also reduce number of users Toshiba can claim, possibly allowing some studio to exercise an escape clause earlier than expected.

It was to be announced today, as a 'Blu-ray loves you' type of promo, tied in with Valentine's Day ("You'll love feeling blue on Valentine's Day"), but the logistics got more complicated, perhaps because more BD SA manufacturers wanted in on the program than initially thought.

Full disclosure: I have a very active imagination and no insider connections whatsoever...

That reminded me of a Richard Lewis bit where he was talking crap about a car but didn't want to say the name, so he said it rhymed with 'maguar'.

So, any more hints coming?

Maybe Rental/Retail/Studio?

Come on, any little thing?

The BDA should not give any incentives for dead owners. Blu is growing fine as is. They made their beds, let them lie in them.

oy. it's a cute idea, but i don't see why the BDA should take a bath on this one for the benefit of the el cheapos that jumped at HD DVD because it was ZOMGCHEAP.

The only one who might do this is Toshiba IF they come out with a Blu-Ray player... but I doubt it... they'll most likely say: "We told you they were great upconverters!"

Kill Bill Volumes 1 and 2 is Disney, but "Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair" is Weinstein.

They'll make combo players one day, but they'll probably be priced to earn a profit unlike their HD DVD hardware which they were willing to lose money over to try to establish HD DVD market-share.

Ugh.

The signal/noise ratio in this thread is getting real bad. I think it's time to lock it up and clean it out until we hear something solid.

I still can't guess what happened tomorrow? Para go neutral? I'd say unlikely, but would be good. Weinstein going blu? Likely, but still not sure. You know, I'll better leave it till tomorrow.
